Montego Bay is Jamaica's resort capital — most all-inclusives and the cruise port sit here — but the real city is worth leaving the gate for. Skip the resort jerk and go to Scotchies on the Falmouth road, where chicken and pork cook over pimento wood under a tin roof; it's the benchmark on the island. Doctor's Cave Beach made Mobay's name a century ago for its clear water, and the Hip Strip (Gloucester Avenue) runs the bars and patties a short walk from the airport. Eat jerk with festival, the slightly sweet fried dumplings. December to April is the dry, reliable season — also the priciest, since that's when everyone comes.
