🌍 About Kano
Kano is northern Nigeria's old caravan city, the southern terminus of trans-Saharan trade for centuries, and the standout sight proves it: the Kofar Mata dye pits, hand-dug indigo wells founded in 1498 and still worked by a handful of dyers — the oldest such pits in Africa, where cloth goes in white and comes out the deep blue that once clothed Saharan traders. Eat kilishi here, the Hausa dried beef: thin sheets of meat coated in a spiced groundnut paste and sun-dried into something between jerky and a snack you can't stop eating. Kano invented it. Come November to February, when harmattan dust keeps days dry and as cool as Kano gets. Avoid March to May — 40-43°C and punishing. July and August bring the rains.
