Auckland is the largest Polynesian city in the world, and the most rewarding eating reflects that: skip the harbourside chains and go to the weekend markets in South Auckland (Ōtara) for a Pacific plate — sapasui (Samoan chop suey) or raw fish in coconut cream. The city sits on a field of around 50 volcanic cones.
