Lublin (LUZ) Airport Guide 2026 — The Station With Three Trains

🏢 1. A Small Terminal With a Serious Runway and a Railway Platform

Lublin Airport opened as eastern Poland’s regional field at Świdnik, on the site of a long-standing aviation town — the PZL-Świdnik helicopter works are next door, and the bus stop on the way in is still called Świdnik – Helikopter. The airport company is Port Lotniczy Lublin SA, based at ul. Zesłańców Sybiru 6 in Lublin.

The infrastructure is better than the passenger numbers imply. There is one asphalt runway, 07/25, 2,520 m by 45 m, rated PCN-50/F/B/X/T, with D-VOR/DME, PAPI at both ends, and a Category II ILS on runway 25 — CAT II being the thing that keeps flights landing in the winter fog that sits on the Lublin plateau. Runway 25 has full ALPA-ATA CAT II approach lighting; runway 07 has a simplified system. The apron takes two code-D aircraft plus three code-C, or one code-D plus five code-C, and one of the code-D stands doubles as the de-icing pad in winter. Rescue and firefighting is category 7.

The passenger building is a single hall: check-in, one security channel, and separate Schengen and non-Schengen departure sides beyond it — which matters here, because Lublin flies to Türkiye and Egypt as well as inside the EU. There is a children’s playground, and the railway station is physically part of the terminal, a short walk from the check-in desks.

I could not verify a passenger figure. The airport’s own statistics page carries counters labelled “passengers in 2024” and “aircraft movements in 2024” and renders no numbers at all — the values never load. Rather than borrow a figure from somewhere else and call it the airport’s, this guide states none. What the same page does say is that the summer season carried 12 routes.

Who flies here, and where

Three airlines carry the scheduled network — Ryanair, Wizz Air and LOT Polish Airlines — plus charter programmes to the sun destinations. The airport’s own destination list, with its own published flight times:

Read the Barcelona line carefully. The airport markets a Barcelona connection, and the airport it actually flies to is Girona-Costa Brava, about 100 km up the coast. Girona is a genuinely good city and the transfer to Barcelona is straightforward, but it is not Barcelona, and the airport’s own copy describes Girona while the destination card says Barcelona. Budget for the coach.

London Luton is the busiest route by far, flown by both Ryanair and Wizz Air on overlapping days — on a typical morning both carriers depart within half an hour of each other. Warsaw is the only domestic hub link and the only route with a connecting network behind it; everything else is point-to-point.

The airport itself takes no position on baggage: its own pages say only that allowances are set by the airline and that you should check with the carrier. That is correct and unhelpful, which is why the guides above exist.

🛂 2. Poland’s Border: Schengen, EES, and Two Departure Halls

Poland is a Schengen country, so a flight from Luton, Dublin, Bergamo, Girona, Rijeka or Split lands you in Lublin with no routine passport control. Lublin also flies to Türkiye, Egypt and Tunisia, which are not in Schengen — hence the second, non-Schengen departure hall and its own lounge. Which side of the terminal you sit in depends entirely on where you are going.

EES — live since April, and it changed the desk

The EU’s Entry/Exit System became fully operational on 10 April 2026, after a progressive start that began on 12 October 2025. It applies to non-EU nationals on a short stay across the 29 countries that operate it, and it has replaced the stamping of passports.

The system records your name, your travel-document data, biometrics — fingerprints and a captured facial image — and the date and place of every entry and exit, plus any refusal of entry. The purpose is automatic detection of overstayers: the 90-days-in-180 clock is now counted by a database rather than by an officer reading ink.

For you, that means the first registration takes noticeably longer than a stamp, because prints and a face capture have to be taken. Later crossings are quicker and increasingly go through self-service kiosks and automated gates. At Lublin you will meet this only on the non-Schengen side — coming back from Antalya or Hurghada, or on your first entry into Schengen wherever that happens.

ETIAS — status, not a date

ETIAS is not in operation. The European Commission’s own page states that it “is currently not in operation and no applications for travel authorisations are collected at this point”, and that the EU “will inform about the specific date for the start of ETIAS several months prior to its launch.”

Two consequences. The fee has been set at €20, replacing the €7 figure that circulated for years — so a site quoting €7 is out of date and a site quoting a start date is guessing. And more practically: nobody can sell you a valid ETIAS today, because none exist. Any service offering to obtain, expedite or pre-check one for a fee is selling nothing. When it launches, applications go through an official EU website or app, and the current framework exempts under-18s, over-70s and family members of EU citizens from the fee.

Money

Polish złoty. Poland is in the EU but not in the eurozone, and euros are not accepted in shops, on buses or in taxis. Poland is heavily card-based — contactless works on the bus, in the taxi and in every shop — so there is little reason to carry much cash, though the airport car-park machines do take coins and notes if you prefer. Decline any card terminal that offers to bill you in your home currency; the machine’s rate is always worse than your bank’s. Do not change money at an airport desk if you can avoid it.

Rough orientation at the European Central Bank’s reference rate on 7 September 2026: a 5 zł bus ticket is about €1.16, a 7.90 zł train ticket about €1.85, and the 130 zł lounge is about €30. Rates move; treat those as indicative and the złoty figures as the real ones.

🚌 3. Three Trains, One Bus Line, and the 50-Minute Detour

This is the section that should decide when you book your flight.

The train, and why it is not the answer you hoped for

The station is built into the terminal — you walk from the check-in hall to the platform. It is served by POLREGIO, and the service is thin. On Monday 7 September 2026 — the weekday I checked — exactly three trains left the airport for Lublin Główny, at 10:20, 18:05 and 20:29, and exactly three arrived, at 08:16, 15:19 and 18:20. The run takes 16 minutes, the ticket costs 7.90 zł, and trains use Platform I. I did not verify a weekend pattern; given that the airport bus collapses from sixteen departures to three at weekends, assume the train does something similar until you have checked your own date.

Three a day is not a shuttle. It means the train is a lottery you either win or lose depending on your flight time, and it means you cannot plan around it — you have to look up your own date. The airport points passengers at bilety.polregio.pl for tickets and at portalpasazera.pl for the station timetable poster, and those are the two places to check. The times above are what the carriers were publishing for a Monday in September 2026 and they will not hold for your date.

When a train does line up with your flight, take it. It is the fastest and cheapest way into Lublin by a wide margin, and it drops you at the main station where the intercity trains to Warsaw leave.

The bus, which is the real answer most of the time

ZDiTM Lublin’s line 5 runs between Dworzec Lublin — the integrated station in the city — and Mełgiew, calling at the airport. There are two airport stops, sensibly named: Port Lotniczy Lublin – odloty on the run out of town (departures) and Port Lotniczy Lublin – przyloty on the run back (arrivals).

On the timetable in force from 1 September 2026:

• Airport into Lublin, weekdays: sixteen buses, first 05:09, last 22:04, roughly hourly with a gap between 09:15 and 12:10.
• Lublin out to the airport, weekdays: eight buses, first 05:24, last 18:25. Nothing after 18:25 — an evening departure means a taxi or a car.
• Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays: three buses each way. Out of town at 10:37, 13:23 and 16:03 on a Saturday; back at 11:20, 14:00 and 17:05 both days.

The journey is 50 to 60 minutes, which is the price of a route that swings through Świdnik town — past the helicopter works, the stadium and the Kino LOT — before running down Mełgiewska into the city. It does have one advantage the train does not: it stops at Brama Krakowska and Muzeum Narodowe – Zamek, which is to say the Old Town gate and the Castle. If your hotel is in the historic centre, the bus puts you closer than the railway station does.

Tickets are 5.00 zł normal and 2.50 zł reduced for a single across zones 1+2, in force since 16 February 2026, bought in the validator on board. The airport lies outside Lublin’s city limits, which is why you need the second zone.

Taxi

ALE TAXI is the operator recommended by the airport, on +48 81 511 11 11, with a rank directly in front of the terminal on the arrivals side. Neither the airport nor the operator publishes an airport fare, and I am not going to invent one. Ask for the price to your address before the doors close, and prefer a booking through the company’s own app or phone line to a car that approaches you in the hall.

Driving and parking

The airport makes a fair point about its own geography: from most of the Lublin region it is quicker and cheaper to drive here than to Warsaw, Modlin or Rzeszów. There are two car parks, A and B, totalling 727 spaces, laid out on either side of the railway station that runs through the middle of the site; the airport separately describes 465 spaces right next to the terminal. If A is full, use B — the tariff is identical. Payment is at self-service machines that take 1, 2 and 5 zł coins, 10, 20, 50 and 100 zł notes, and cards.

Two rules that catch people: you must leave the car park within 15 minutes of paying, and blue-badge holders get 30 minutes free but must present a valid card at the Information Point within 30 minutes of driving in.

🛋️ 4. Two Lounges, 130 Złoty, and a Priority Pass That Actually Works

This is where Lublin outperforms its size. There are two Business Executive Lounges — one in the Schengen departure hall and one in the non-Schengen hall — open during check-in for scheduled flights.

The entry fee is 130 zł, about €30, payable on the door. Children under 2 go free. Access is also included if you hold:

• a LOT Polish Airlines business-class ticket,
• a Star Alliance Gold card, on LOT flights,
• a Diners Club International card,
• a Priority Pass,
• a DragonPass.

Inside, the airport lists a self-service bar with hot and cold drinks including a selection of alcohol, sweet and savoury snacks, a work area with workstations and fast internet, and a printer and fax on request. The two rooms differ: the Schengen lounge has an outdoor patio, and the non-Schengen lounge looks out over the apron so you can watch the aircraft. The lounge line is 81 45 81 444.

At 130 zł this is worth it on a delay, on a 05:00 start, or on the non-Schengen side before a four-hour flight to Sharm. On a 40-minute wait for a Luton hop, it is not. If you already carry Priority Pass or DragonPass, use it — this is one of the smaller European airports where the card is genuinely honoured.

🍽️ 5. Shops, and the Lublin Table You Should Really Be Eating At

The airport has shops and hot food landside and airside, and a playground for small children. Do not expect a food hall: this is a single-terminal regional airport and the offer is sized to it.

One thing worth understanding about the shopping. Poland is inside the EU customs and tax area, so on a flight to Luton, Bergamo, Girona or Dublin there is no duty-free saving on alcohol or tobacco — you are paying Polish retail, which is cheap by western European standards but is not a duty-free price. Genuine duty-free applies only on the non-Schengen side, to Antalya, Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh and Monastir. Check which hall you are in before you decide anything is a bargain.

What Lublin province actually eats

Lubelszczyzna is Poland’s grain and orchard country, sitting on an old Polish-Ruthenian-Jewish culinary border, and its food is distinct from Kraków’s or Poznań’s.

• Cebularz lubelski. The one to eat. A flat wheat bun topped with chopped onion and poppy seed, an EU-protected regional product with roots in Lublin’s Jewish bakeries. Eaten warm, from a bakery, for small change. If you buy one thing in Lublin, buy this.
• Pierogi with kasza gryczana and twaróg — buckwheat and curd cheese — which is the eastern Polish filling rather than the potato-and-onion of the west.
• Forszmak lubelski. A thick, sour, paprika-heavy stew of pork, sausage, pickled cucumber and tomato. Regional, filling, and rarely found outside the province.
• Piróg biłgorajski, from Biłgoraj to the south: a baked buckwheat, potato and curd pie, EU-protected and very local.
• Gryczaki — buckwheat and mushroom buns — and żurek made on rye sourdough.
• Orchard fruit and its products. The Lublin region is Poland’s apple and soft-fruit heartland; cherry and blackcurrant juices, preserves and nalewki (fruit liqueurs) are worth carrying home.
• Kozi Ród and other local goat and cow cheeses, sold at Lublin’s markets rather than in supermarkets.

Eat in the city, not at the airport. The Old Town is 45 minutes away on a bus that costs 5 zł.

💡 6. Insider: When Lublin Wins, and What the Region Is For

Fly from LUZ when

• You are going to eastern Poland. Warsaw Chopin, Modlin and Rzeszów are all a long road journey from Lublin; this airport is in the region, and for most of Lubelskie it is genuinely the faster and cheaper option.
• Your route is on the list. Luton twice a day on two carriers, Warsaw on LOT, and a solid Adriatic and Mediterranean summer programme.
• You have a Priority Pass or DragonPass. Two working lounges at a regional airport is unusual, and you can use them.
• Your flight lines up with a train. Sixteen minutes and 7.90 zł, from a platform attached to the terminal, is as good as airport transfers get in Europe.
• You are driving. 727 spaces, an easy approach, and no city traffic.

Fly from somewhere else when

• You need a connection. Warsaw is the only hub link. Everything else is point-to-point, with no second frequency to fall back on if a flight is cancelled.
• You are landing late at the weekend. Three buses a day, three trains a day, and the last bus out of town at 18:25 on a weekday. Weekend evenings are a taxi, full stop.
• You actually want Barcelona. The flight goes to Girona, 100 km away.
• You need long-haul or a wide choice of dates. Warsaw is two and a half hours by intercity train from Lublin Główny and has the network Lublin does not.

Worth your days in the Lublin region

• Lublin Old Town. One of Poland’s best-preserved and least-visited historic centres: the Kraków Gate, Rynek and Crown Tribunal, the Lublin Castle with the Holy Trinity Chapel — a Catholic chapel painted floor to ceiling with Ruthenian Orthodox frescoes in the early 15th century, and one of the most remarkable interiors in Europe. Line 5 stops at both the gate and the castle.
• Majdanek. The German Nazi concentration and extermination camp on the southern edge of the city, preserved almost intact because it was captured before it could be destroyed — barracks, gas chambers and crematorium still standing, within the city limits and free to enter. It is not a sightseeing stop; go with time and go early.
• Kazimierz Dolny, an hour west on the Vistula. A Renaissance river town of granaries and merchant houses, a ruined castle above it, and the artists’ colony that has painted it for a century. The single best day trip from Lublin.
• Zamość, 90 minutes south. A 16th-century Italian-designed ideal city built from nothing by Jan Zamoyski, still intact inside its bastion fortifications, and a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Great Market Square with its arcaded Armenian houses is the reason to come.
• Lublin’s Jewish past. The Grodzka Gate–NN Theatre centre documents the vanished Jewish town that stood below the castle; the Yeshivas Chachmei Lublin, one of the great interwar rabbinical academies, still stands on Lubartowska.
• Roztocze, south-east towards the Ukrainian border: a low limestone ridge of beech forest, river gorges and small spa towns, with a national park at Zwierzyniec.
• Kozłówka, north: a Zamoyski palace with an intact 18th-century interior and, in its outbuildings, Poland’s collection of Socialist Realist art.

Practical odds and ends

• Three trains each way on the weekday I checked. Look up yours; do not assume, and do not assume the weekend matches it.
• The last bus to the airport leaves town at 18:25 on a weekday. At weekends there are three all day.
• 5 zł on the bus, 7.90 zł on the train, both in złoty. No euros.
• 130 zł for the lounge, free on Priority Pass and DragonPass.
• Two departure halls — Schengen and non-Schengen. Real duty-free exists only in the second one.
• No published taxi fare. Agree a price first.
• Exit the car park within 15 minutes of paying, or you pay again.
• EES is live; ETIAS is not, and nobody can sell you one.
• Compare the Lublin fare against Warsaw and Rzeszów before you book — the aifly price check will do it, and on the Adriatic routes Lublin often wins outright.
