🌍 About Madrid

Madrid sits dead center in Spain, hours from any coast, yet its signature street food is the bocadillo de calamares — fried squid rings in a crusty roll, sold around Plaza Mayor and eaten with a squeeze of lemon. The real local institution is cocido madrileño, a chickpea, pork and beef stew served in three courses (broth first, then chickpeas and veg, then the meat), a slow winter-Thursday ritual. Don't skip the museums: the Prado, Reina Sofía (home to Picasso's Guernica) and Thyssen sit within a 15-minute walk of each other. Come April–June or September–October for warm, walkable days. Avoid July and August — temperatures hit 40°C and locals clear out. If a cheap fare lands in those months, you're trading price for heat.
