Rabat is Morocco's capital, which is exactly why most travelers skip it for Marrakech — their loss. The Kasbah des Oudayas is the reason to come: a walled quarter of cobalt-and-white lanes on a bluff where the Bou Regreg river meets the Atlantic, quieter and far less hustled than Marrakech's medina. Walk up to Chellah, a Roman and medieval Islamic ruin where storks nest on the old minarets. As a coastal city, Rabat does seafood the inland towns can't — order the seafood pastilla, shrimp and calamari folded into flaky warqa pastry dusted with sugar, savory and sweet at once. The ocean keeps it mild; summers top out around 28°C, never brutal. Come April–June or September–October; skip November, the wettest month of the year.
