🌍 About Bangui
Bangui sits right on the Ubangi River, with the Democratic Republic of Congo on the far bank — you can watch pirogues crossing between the two countries. The one real sight is the Boganda National Museum, named for the country's independence leader and packed with traditional instruments, masks, and ivory carvings inside an old colonial villa. Eat saka-saka, cassava leaves pounded and slow-cooked with palm oil and dried fish; it's the everyday staple and the thing to try. The red-brick Notre-Dame cathedral is the city's other landmark. Be clear-eyed: this is a fragile, low-infrastructure capital, not a casual trip — check your government's travel advisory first. If you go, December–March is the dry season and by far the most manageable; avoid July–September, when rain peaks.
