🌍 About Kathmandu
Kathmandu sits in a valley that held three rival kingdoms, so it has three Durbar Squares of old palaces and temples — the one in Bhaktapur, 13 km east, is the best preserved, much of it predating the 2015 earthquake that flattened parts of the central square. Eat Newari, not just momos: chatamari, a rice-flour crepe topped with minced buffalo and egg, and choila, grilled spiced buffalo. Boudhanath, a giant white stupa ringed by Tibetan monasteries, is where the city feels most itself at dusk when pilgrims circle it. Come October–November: clear skies after the monsoon, mild days, and the Dashain and Tihar festivals. Skip June–September, when rain and cloud hide the mountains, and note March–April brings genuinely bad air quality despite the warmth.
