🌍 About Tromsø
Tromsø sits 350km above the Arctic Circle and is the largest city in northern Norway — locals call it the 'Paris of the North' for its café and cocktail scene, surprising in a place this far north. The view across the harbour to the Arctic Cathedral (Ishavskatedralen) — a soaring 1965 triangular silhouette in concrete and glass — is the city's signature image, especially when lit by the Northern Lights from October through March. Tromsø is the most reliable Aurora destination in Europe, but the summer flip is just as compelling: the Midnight Sun runs from 18 May to 25 July, when daylight stays for 24 hours and people sail the fjords at 1am. Ride the Fjellheisen cable car up Mount Storsteinen for the panoramic view of the city and surrounding islands; visit Polaria for an Arctic-ecosystem primer; drink at Ølhallen (the city's oldest pub, opened 1928) or the Mack Brewery, the northernmost in the world. The Lyngen Alps across the fjord are the centre of Norway's ski-and-sail scene, and the offshore fjords still hold orcas and humpbacks into early May before the whale-watching season…
