🌍 About Luanda
Luanda sits on the Atlantic where Portuguese is the language and the kwanza the currency. The thing to do is cross to the Ilha do Cabo, a thin sandbar curling off the city lined with seafood restaurants — order mufete, grilled Atlantic fish served with beans, cassava and palm oil. The dish to actually seek out is muamba de galinha, chicken stewed in red palm oil with okra and hot pepper, eaten with funje, a stiff cassava porridge. Don't expect cheap: oil money long made Luanda one of the priciest cities on earth, though a neighbourhood tasco still does the real food for $5–15. Come May to September, the dry "cacimbo" season — cool, rainless, with grey morning mist that burns off by noon. Skip November to April, hot and storm-heavy.
