Jetstar Asia Baggage Allowance 2026: Carry-On, Checked & Fees (Ceased Operations)

ℹ️ Status updated 2026-07-06

Jetstar Asia is no longer operating under this name. Jetstar Asia (the Singapore-based 3K entity) permanently ceased operations on 31 July 2025 after parent Qantas shut the unit down. Note this is only the Singapore airline — Jetstar Airways (Australia) and Jetstar Japan keep flying.

What this means for baggage: the allowance below is preserved only as a historical reference (the policy in effect at the time). To fly this network today, for the Jetstar brand that still flies, see Jetstar (Australia) — Singapore-based Jetstar Asia is gone.

Important 2026 update: Jetstar Asia (flight code 3K), the Singapore-based low-cost carrier, permanently ceased all operations on 31 July 2025. You can no longer book or fly Jetstar Asia. The closure followed years of rising supplier costs, airport fees and intensifying competition in Southeast Asia; all 16 of its intra-Asia routes were dropped and its 13 Airbus A320s were redeployed to Jetstar’s Australia and New Zealand operations.

This matters for two reasons. First, if you are searching for Jetstar Asia baggage rules, you are almost certainly looking at an old itinerary, a cached fare, or a route that another airline now covers. Second, Jetstar Asia is not the same as Jetstar Airways (JQ), which still flies international routes between Australia and Southeast Asia, or Jetstar Japan (GK) — both of which are unaffected and still operating. The baggage policies below are documented for reference and for anyone reconciling a pre-closure booking; they are no longer purchasable.

Cabin bag & personal item

Item Allowance
Personal / under-seat item Small item (handbag, laptop bag or similar) — counted within the 7 kg / 2-piece carry-on allowance. Jetstar did not give a separate free personal item on top of the cabin allowance; the second item had to fit under the seat and both pieces together stayed within 7 kg
Cabin / carry-on bag 56 x 36 x 23 cm (main bag, incl. wheels & handles) · 7 kg combined for 2 items Free (included in all fares)

Checked baggage & fees

Checked allowance None in the Starter fare; purchasable in 15/20/25/30/40 kg tiers or via a bundle
Weight limit Up to 40 kg total purchasable; no single bag over 32 kg (workplace lifting limit)
Typical fee Roughly USD 65 / SGD 65 for the first 15 kg on international 3K flights, varying by route and currency (e.g. THB 1,600, PHP 2,700, IDR 720,000, VND 1,200,000, TWD 1,500); always cheapest pre-paid online, dearest at the airport

What each fare includes

Fare Personal Cabin Checked
Starter (cheapest) Included within the 7 kg / 2-item limit 7 kg carry-on (2 items) Not included — added separately
Starter Plus / Max bundles Included within the 7 kg / 2-item limit 7 kg carry-on (2 items) Pre-paid checked allowance bundled in (e.g. 20 kg / 30 kg)

What you actually get on a cheap fare

aifly deal angle: When Jetstar Asia was flying, its cheapest Starter fare bundled in only the 7 kg carry-on (2 items) — checked baggage was never included and had to be paid for separately. So a headline “$39 to Bali” almost always became $100+ once you added a 15–20 kg bag, since the first checked tier alone ran around SGD/USD 65 on international routes. The lesson still applies to every low-cost carrier now flying ex-Jetstar-Asia routes (Scoot, AirAsia, Jetstar Airways): the advertised price is the no-bag price. Always pre-pay checked baggage online — never at the airport — and price the bag into the fare before you decide a deal is actually cheap.

Oversize, sports & special items

If you are rebooking a former Jetstar Asia route in 2026: treat it as a fresh shopping exercise. There is no longer a 3K fare to match, so compare the carriers that now serve your city pair on total price including bags. Scoot and AirAsia follow the same model Jetstar Asia did — cheap base fare, paid checked bags, ~7 kg cabin limit — while full-service options like Singapore Airlines typically include a checked allowance.

Former oversize and special baggage rules (for reference): on international 3K flights, oversized items were charged around SGD 25 (VND 400,000) per item per flight, with up to two oversized items per passenger. Sports gear and musical instruments fell under the same checked weight/oversize structure — within your purchased weight allowance if they fit, or as an oversize item if not. Items over 32 kg could not be checked as a single piece. These figures are historical and no longer bookable.

Frequently asked questions

Can I still fly Jetstar Asia in 2026?

No. Jetstar Asia (3K) permanently ceased all operations on 31 July 2025. Its Singapore-based intra-Asia network was shut down and the aircraft moved to Jetstar's Australia and New Zealand operations. You cannot book or fly 3K flights.

Is Jetstar Asia the same as Jetstar Airways?

No. Jetstar Airways (flight code JQ) is a separate, larger airline that still operates, including international flights between Australia and Southeast Asia. Jetstar Japan (GK) also still operates. Only the Singapore-based Jetstar Asia (3K) closed.

What was Jetstar Asia's carry-on allowance?

Two items totalling 7 kg, with the main bag no larger than 56 x 36 x 23 cm including wheels and handles. The second item had to fit under the seat in front. This carry-on allowance was included in every fare, including the cheapest Starter fare.

Did the cheapest Jetstar Asia fare include a checked bag?

No. The cheapest Starter fare included only the 7 kg carry-on. Checked baggage was always an extra — bought as a weight tier (typically 15 to 40 kg) or as part of a Starter Plus/Max bundle. Buying online in advance was far cheaper than paying at the airport.

How much did a checked bag cost on Jetstar Asia?

For international 3K flights, the first 15 kg cost roughly USD 65 or SGD 65, with equivalents in local currencies (about THB 1,600, PHP 2,700, IDR 720,000, VND 1,200,000, TWD 1,500). Prices varied by route, weight tier and how far in advance you bought — airport prices were the highest.

I had a Jetstar Asia booking — what happens to my baggage fees and refund?

All affected customers were contacted and offered an alternative flight or a full refund. Pre-paid extras such as checked baggage were included in those refunds. Jetstar vouchers tied to Jetstar Asia were converted to cash refunds from August 2025, and Singapore-based Club Jetstar membership fees were refunded. If you have an unresolved pre-closure booking, contact Jetstar via the official Jetstar Asia closure scheme page.

Which airlines now fly the routes Jetstar Asia used to operate?

The 16 closed routes are now served by other regional carriers — Jetstar Airways (JQ) on some Australia–Southeast Asia links, plus Scoot, Singapore Airlines, AirAsia and other local low-cost and full-service airlines depending on the city pair. Compare current options and baggage rules airline by airline before booking.
