🌍 About Gazipasa

Gazipaşa is the quiet end of the Turkish Riviera, and its little airport (GZP) exists mainly as the shortcut to Alanya, 40km west, so you skip the crush at Antalya. The town is built over ancient Selinus, where the Roman emperor Trajan died in 117 AD on his way home from Mesopotamia — the first emperor to die outside Italy. The seaside ruins and the Şekerhane Köşkü, long thought to be his cenotaph, sit right below the headland. What sets Gazipaşa apart from Alanya is how empty its beaches stay. Look for the small local banana: this strip grows nearly half of Turkey's crop, and the homegrown fruit is tiny, sweet and nothing like the imports. Come May–June or September–October for warm sea and thin crowds; July–August means 35°C and full sunbeds.
