Cheap Flights Vilnius to Nairobi 2026 — Fares, Airlines & Best Time to Book

There is no non-stop flight from Vilnius to Nairobi — the distance and the size of the market both point to a single connection through a major hub. Our latest fare check found the competition is real but narrower than usually described: Turkish via Istanbul and Lufthansa via Frankfurt held most of the cheap fares between them, while the Gulf and Ethiopian routings often named on this corridor produced none at all. This guide covers who actually flies it, what a return costs in euros, and how to keep the price down.

Route: Vilnius (VNO) → Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta (NBO)

Distance: approximately 6,300 km (3,900 miles) direct line

Non-stop flight time: no non-stop service — connecting itineraries run about 14h 07m typically, from 13h 20m at best to 31h 15m at worst

Direct flights: No — every option connects once. In our latest check the cheap fares went through Istanbul (Turkish) and Frankfurt (Lufthansa), with Amsterdam, Paris and Brussels behind them. There is no direct Vilnius–Nairobi flight.

Fares from Vilnius to Nairobi (EUR)

Nairobi runs on a business-and-safari rhythm rather than a beach-season spike. The busiest, priciest stretches are the July–September safari high season and the Christmas–New Year holidays; the long-rains months of March–May and the quieter shoulders are the cheapest. The table below tracks that demand; for money, use the measured figures underneath it, because the live market sits well above the historic floor.

Month Demand
January medium
February medium
March low-medium
April low (long rains)
May low
June medium-high
July high (safari season)
August high (safari season)
September high
October medium
November medium
December very high (holidays)

Two sets of numbers, and they disagree in a way worth understanding. Our longer-run tracking of this route is solid — 42 recorded observations — and puts a strong return around €485, a good one near €760 and the everyday level close to €980. But a live fare check on 5 August 2026 (the 100 cheapest economy returns, hand baggage only, for August 2026 to January 2027) found the current market much higher: €741 at the very cheapest, a median of €1,217, and a fifth of fares above €1,475. So €485 is a real floor this route has reached, but on today’s dates anything under €850 is doing well. The cheapest same-day itinerary was Lufthansa via Frankfurt at €742 in about 14 hours.

Airlines on this route

Non-stop: none — there is no direct Vilnius–Nairobi flight.

Connecting (13h 20m at best, about 14 hours typically, up to 31h 15m):

  • Turkish Airlines via Istanbul — the dominant option, holding half of the cheapest fares in our check. Turkish flies both legs itself (about 3 hours to Istanbul, 6h 40m onward), which makes it the smoothest single connection as well as one of the cheapest.
  • Lufthansa via Frankfurt — the other genuine contender, and the one holding the cheapest same-day fare we found at €742, about 14h 10m end to end. Lufthansa operates both legs.
  • KLM via Amsterdam, Air France via Paris and Brussels Airlines via Brussels — all appeared, and all share a quirk worth knowing: the Vilnius leg is usually flown by airBaltic, and the Brussels-coded itineraries we saw were largely operated by Lufthansa via Frankfurt rather than through Brussels at all. Check the operating carrier on your ticket.
  • Kenya Airways — flies its own aircraft into Nairobi from Amsterdam and Paris, connecting from a European gateway. It does not usually lead on price but it is a direct-into-hub option the route is rarely credited with.
  • Qatar Airways via Doha and Ethiopian Airlines via Addis Ababa — both serve the Europe–Nairobi market and both are strong products, but neither produced a single fare among the cheapest we checked. Price them rather than assume they lead.

The competition on Europe–East Africa is real, but on our dates it came from Istanbul and Frankfurt rather than the Gulf. Turkish and Lufthansa between them held roughly seven of every ten cheap fares, and the Gulf and Addis routings that usually get named produced none. There is still normally more than one good routing on any given date — just check which hubs are actually pricing well rather than defaulting to the familiar ones.

When to book & how to save

  • Book 2–4 months ahead for the best balance of price and choice, and earlier still if you are travelling in the July–September safari peak.
  • Travel in the low seasons: the long-rains months of March–May and quieter November are traditionally the cheapest, and Kenya is far from washed out — the rain tends to come in short bursts. March to May sits outside the window our fare check could reach, so we quote no figure for it.
  • Avoid the safari and holiday peaks (July–September and late December) if budget matters; those are the dearest weeks by a wide margin.
  • Compare routings, not just airlines — and watch the clock. Total journeys in our check ranged from 13h 20m to 31h 15m, so the layover is worth more attention than the airline name. A quarter of the fares were also two separate tickets rather than one booking.
  • Check the checked-bag allowance: full-service carriers to Nairobi usually include 23–30 kg, but the very cheapest fare classes can be tighter — compare the all-in price with a bag added.

Arriving in Nairobi

You will land at Jomo Kenyatta International (NBO), about 15 km southeast of the city centre. A metered or pre-booked taxi into town costs roughly €15–€25 depending on traffic, which can be heavy — allow extra time at rush hour. Ride-hailing apps operate at the airport and are usually cheaper than the airport taxi rank. Many safari lodges and hotels arrange airport transfers, which is often the simplest option if you are heading straight out on a trip.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the flight from Vilnius to Nairobi?

There is no non-stop, so plan on a one-stop journey. In our latest check the median was 14 hours 7 minutes, the quickest 13 hours 20 minutes and the slowest 31 hours 15 minutes — so the spread matters more than the average. A tight connection through Istanbul or Frankfurt comes in near the short end; a long overnight layover can more than double the trip.

Are there direct flights from Vilnius to Nairobi?

No. There is no direct Vilnius–Nairobi service, and given the distance and demand none is expected. Every ticket connects once. In our latest check the cheap fares ran through Istanbul (Turkish Airlines) and Frankfurt (Lufthansa), with Amsterdam, Paris and Brussels behind them — and on those last three the Vilnius leg is usually flown by airBaltic.

How much does it cost to fly from Vilnius to Nairobi?

It depends which yardstick you use. Our longer-run tracking (42 recorded observations) has seen strong fares around €485 and puts the everyday level near €980. A live check of the 100 cheapest returns for August 2026 to January 2027 found today’s market higher: €741 at the cheapest and a median of €1,217. The safari high season and the December holidays sit at the top of that.

What is the cheapest month to fly from Vilnius to Nairobi?

April and May — Kenya’s long-rains low season — are traditionally the cheapest, with March and November close behind. We should be straight about our own data, though: the bookable dates our check could reach ran from August 2026 to January 2027, so none of those months could be priced and we quote no figure for them. Avoid July–September (safari peak) and late December, which are the busiest and most expensive weeks of the year.

Which airlines fly from Vilnius to Nairobi?

All routings connect once. In our latest check Turkish Airlines via Istanbul held half the cheapest fares and Lufthansa via Frankfurt most of the rest, including the cheapest at €742. KLM (Amsterdam), Air France (Paris) and Brussels Airlines also appeared, generally with airBaltic flying the Vilnius leg, and Kenya Airways operates into Nairobi from Amsterdam and Paris. Qatar Airways (Doha) and Ethiopian Airlines (Addis Ababa) serve the market but produced no fare among the cheapest we checked.

Which airport do I fly into in Nairobi?

Nairobi’s gateway is Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO), southeast of the city, where essentially all international flights arrive. It is the hub for onward connections across Kenya and East Africa, so if you are heading to the coast or a national park you will usually change here.

How far in advance should I book Vilnius to Nairobi flights?

Book 2 to 4 months ahead for the best fares, and further out for travel during the July–September safari season or the Christmas holidays, when seats fill and prices climb. Long-haul fares to Nairobi rarely improve in the final few weeks before departure.

Is it cheaper to fly on weekdays?

On this route it is firmly the other way round. In our check the median midweek return (Tuesday to Thursday) was €1,374 against €1,044 for Friday to Sunday — the weekend was about a third cheaper, and the single lowest fare of all departed on a Sunday. Shifting your dates is still worth doing on a hub-connecting route, but start by looking at the weekend rather than avoiding it.
