The practical shape of this route is simpler than the usual advice suggests. Etihad is the one to beat: it held three-quarters of the cheap fares and its journey time barely varies. Check Qatar if you want the shortest trip and will pay for it, and China Eastern only if a €46 saving is worth an extra thirteen hours. Compare all of them on your own dates — a single sample is not a schedule, and the cheapest carrier does change.
When to book & how to save
- Book 2–4 months ahead for the best balance of price and choice; long-haul fares to Phuket rarely fall in the final weeks, especially into the winter peak.
- Avoid the peaks: the December–January holidays and the February high season are the most expensive and busiest.
- Travel in the green season (May, June, September) for the lowest fares — days are warm with passing showers, and the island is far quieter. Our fare check reached only August to October, so we make no ranking between individual months; what it did show is that no winter date got near the cheap end.
