This is the Dutch half of an island shared with France — Sint Maarten, capital Philipsburg, since the Netherlands Antilles was dissolved in 2010. Drink guavaberry, the island's spiced-rum liqueur made from a wild local berry, not guava. Come December–April for dry, dependable weather; avoid August–October, the worst of hurricane season — Irma flattened the island in September 2017.
