Ahmedabad became India's first UNESCO World Heritage City in 2017, and the reason is the old walled city's pols — dense clusters of carved wooden townhouses built around shared courtyards, tight lanes, and centuries-old Jain and Hindu temples. Walk them early, before the heat. The other thing to do is Manek Chowk: a vegetable market at dawn, a gold-and-silver bullion market by midday, then a street-food bazaar after 8pm that runs past midnight — go for the griddle snacks and kulfi-falooda. Note that Gujarat is a dry state, so plan on no alcohol. Come November to February, when it's dry and bearable; April to June is genuinely punishing, regularly above 43°C.
