🌍 About Austin
Austin runs on three foods: the $2–5 breakfast taco from a trailer (egg, salsa, flour tortilla — the everyday staple), and brisket at Franklin Barbecue, salt-and-pepper rubbed and smoked over post oak. Franklin's worth it, but the line runs four hours; their separate taco trailer serves the same brisket with no wait. The genuinely odd sight is the Congress Avenue Bridge at dusk: up to 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats stream out about half an hour before sunset, late March through September, biggest in July and August. Come late March to early May or in September — warm but bearable. Skip mid-summer unless you want the full bat spectacle; July and August regularly hit 100°F. March is great but SXSW spikes crowds and fares.
