🌍 About Lusaka
Lusaka is Zambia's flat, fast-growing capital — more a launchpad than a sight in itself, and honest travellers treat it that way. The real draw is Lusaka National Park, the country's smallest, about an hour out, where the elephant orphanage runs a public feeding of rescued calves each afternoon. Eat nshima, the stiff maize porridge that's the national staple: you pinch off a lump by hand and dip it in "relish" — usually greens, beans, or kapenta, tiny dried fish. Downtown, the Freedom Statue (a man snapping his chains) marks the independence struggle. Come May to August — dry, sunny days near 23°C, cool nights, essentially no rain, and those happen to be the cheaper-fare months too. Skip November to April, when it's hot, wet, and humid.
