🌍 About Malé
The Maldives is the lowest country on Earth — roughly 1,200 coral islands averaging about 1.5m above sea level, scattered across 26 atolls. Two things matter before you book. First, it runs on a one-island-one-resort model, and it's a conservative Muslim country: alcohol, bikinis and the postcard-villa stuff live on private resort islands, while the inhabited "local islands" are dry and modest, so know which you're booking. Second, eat mas huni — shredded smoked tuna with grated coconut, onion and chili, scooped up with roshi flatbread at breakfast. December to February is the dry northeast monsoon: calm seas, the best underwater visibility for snorkeling. The catch for deal-hunters — the cheap fares fall in May to October, which is the wet, choppier southwest monsoon, not the calm clear months.
