🌍 About Singapore
Singapore is a city of hawker centres, and the smart move is to eat where locals queue: a plate of Hainanese chicken rice — poached chicken, rice cooked in the fat, chilli-ginger on the side — for a few dollars. Chilli crab is the famous one but it's messy and pricey; chicken rice is the everyday genius. Skip the malls on Orchard Road for Tiong Bahru, the 1930s art-deco walk-up estate with curved balconies, an old wet market, and indie bookshops tucked under the flats. It's hot and humid year-round (27–32°C). February to April is driest and clearest; November and December bring the heaviest monsoon rain, and August–September can carry haze from Sumatra's fires. Aim for early in the year if you can.
