🌍 About Ankara

Most travellers skip Ankara as "just the capital," but the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations holds the world's finest collection of Hittite art — 4,000-year-old reliefs and bronzes laid out in a restored Ottoman bazaar at the foot of the old castle. That castle quarter, Hisar, is the one part of the city that still feels old: stone houses, tea gardens, and views over the sprawl below. The other essential is Anıtkabir, Atatürk's vast hilltop mausoleum, which does more to explain modern Turkey than any guidebook. Eat Ankara tava, lamb baked with rice. Come April–June or September–October — spring is green and mild, autumn dry and clear. Skip January–February, when this high plateau turns grey and snowbound, and the July–August heat.
