🌍 About Larnaca
Larnaca's Church of Saint Lazarus is built over the tomb of the Lazarus — the one Jesus raised — who, the story goes, lived another 30 years here as the town's bishop; the 9th-century stone church still holds his sarcophagus. Just south, the Salt Lake fills with thousands of greater flamingos from November to March, feeding on its brine shrimp. Offshore, the Zenobia — a ferry that sank on its 1980 maiden voyage — lies about 500m off the marina and is rated one of the world's best wreck dives, shallow enough for beginners. Eat souvla, the big slow-charcoal meat skewers, not the small souvlaki kind. Come March–May or October–November for warm sea, thin crowds and cheaper fares; July–August is hot and packed, and the flamingos are a winter-only payoff.
