🌍 About São Paulo
São Paulo is Brazil's restaurant city, built by waves of immigrants, and the food shows it. Go to the Mercadão (Municipal Market, open since 1933) for the mortadela sandwich — roughly 300g of pan-fried mortadella stacked on a French roll at Bar do Mané. The other distinctive quarter is Liberdade, home to the largest Japanese community outside Japan, where you eat ramen and gyoza rather than feijoada. Paulistanos are also serious about pizza thanks to the huge Italian descent — locals argue it rivals Naples. Come June to August: it's the coolest, driest stretch, which makes a sprawling concrete megacity far more walkable. Skip December to March, the hot rainy season when afternoon downpours flood streets.
