🌍 About St. John's
St. John's sits at the eastern edge of North America — Cape Spear, just south of town, is the continent's most easterly point. Downtown is steep, foggy, and painted: the row houses of Jellybean Row run in hard reds and yellows, and George Street is two short blocks of nothing but pubs, reputedly the most bars per square foot in North America. Order fish and chips made with local cod, or cod tongues if you're game. Walk up Signal Hill to Cabot Tower, where Marconi received the first transatlantic wireless signal in 1901. Come mid-June to early July: the narrow window when the last icebergs still drift past in Iceberg Alley and the humpback whales have arrived.
