Belize City isn't where you linger — it's the hub you pass through to reach the cayes (Caye Caulker, Ambergris Caye) and the barrier reef, the second-largest on Earth. The one genuinely distinctive sight is the Swing Bridge over Haulover Creek: built in 1923, it's the only manually operated swing bridge left in Central America, once hand-cranked by four men so fishing sailboats could pass.
