🌍 About Bergen
Bergen's Bryggen is the old Hanseatic wharf — a row of leaning wooden trading houses, gable to gable, that ran Norway's fish trade for 800 years and is now UNESCO-listed. The dish to ask for is persetorsk: cod pressed in salt and sugar, served in winter at the old Bryggen restaurants and basically unfindable anywhere else. Otherwise get the Bergen fish soup, finished with a little vinegar and sugar. Ride the Fløibanen funicular up Mount Fløyen for the view over the fjord and the seven surrounding hills. The honest part: Bergen is the rainiest city in Europe, around 195 wet days a year. Come June to August for the longest, warmest days, but pack a raincoat even then — September and October bring the heaviest storms.
