Brno-Tuřany (BRQ) Airport Guide 2026 — Three Scheduled Routes and Thirty-Two Beaches

Brno-Tuřany sits 7.5 km southeast of the centre of Brno on the airport’s own figures, and the number that decides your arrival is 25 Kč — about €1 — because the airport is inside Brno’s city transport zones and an ordinary 60-minute ticket carries you into town on a normal city bus, with no airport surcharge of any kind. This is not a network airport. In 2025 it handled 704,384 passengers, 99.9% of them international, on three scheduled Ryanair routes and thirty-two charter destinations. Czechia is in Schengen but not in the Eurozone — the currency is the Czech koruna. Behind it: Špilberk, Mies van der Rohe’s Villa Tugendhat, and Moravian wine country.

⚡ 2026 Quick Reference — Key Facts at a Glance

Bus to the city — the whole answer
Line 21 to Hlavní nádraží (the main railway station), about 22 minutes, platform 11 in the trolleybus loop · Line 77 to Úzká, opposite the Galeria Vaňkovka, about 26 minutes · night line N89 to Hlavní nádraží, about 20 minutes, from tram track 4. The ordinary IDS JMK fare applies — no airport supplement
What ticket to buy
The terminal stop sits in zone 101 on the Brno network plan, so the Brno two-zone (100 + 101) fare applies. The 60-minute transfer ticket is 25 Kč (reduced 12 Kč); the 15-minute 20 Kč ticket is not enough for a 22-minute ride. Buy before boarding — vending machine in the arrivals hall, the TIC Brno desk, the mobile app or “Beep and Go”
Taxi
Brno Airport Taxi, rank directly in front of arrivals, +420 545 521 234, 24 hours. Airport → Brno centre: 500 Kč (about €21). Metered otherwise: 60 Kč start, 36 Kč/km up to 50 km, 7 Kč per minute waiting
Taxi to other airports
The airport’s own price list quotes Vienna, Bratislava or Ostrava at 4,500 Kč and Prague at 7,000 Kč. Useful mostly as a benchmark for what a private transfer should cost
Rail to Vienna Airport
There is a rail route Brno – Vienna International Airport, and the IDS JMK tariff gives holders of a ticket for it free travel in Brno zones 100+101 on a QR ticket issued by KORDIS JMK, valid 4 hours either side. Check current times with the rail operators
Airport
BRQ / LKTB — public international airport, operator LETIŠTĚ BRNO a.s., open H24. Runway 09/27, 2,650 × 60 m concrete, plus an 800 m grass strip. Elevation 237 m
Traffic and shape
704,384 passengers in 2025 (Eurostat), of which 703,389 international and 286,738 non-scheduled — 41% of everyone here is on a charter
Currency
Czech koruna (CZK, Kč). 🛑 Czechia is in Schengen but NOT in the Eurozone. The Czech National Bank’s fixing on 4 September 2026 was €1 = 24.190 Kč; rates move, so treat the euro figures here as indicative
Lounge
One Airport Lounge, first floor of departures, airside. Entry on a business-class ticket, Priority Pass, LoungeKey, Diners Club or Dragon Pass, selected travel-agency bookings, or a single-entry pass bought at the Customer Service Desk. No walk-up price is published
Border — Schengen, EES, ETIAS
Schengen · EES fully operational since 10 April 2026 · ETIAS is not in operation and no applications are being collected; the fee is set at €20

🏢 1. One Runway, Three Scheduled Routes, and Thirty-Two Charter Beaches

Brno-Tuřany is a public international airport open 24 hours, run by LETIŠTĚ BRNO a.s., 7.5 km southeast of the city centre at 237 metres above sea level. It has one usable runway — 09/27, 2,650 metres by 60, concrete — plus an 800-metre grass strip for light aircraft. That is a serious runway for an airport this size, which is why it doubles as a diversion field and a base for general and business aviation.

The terminal is small and legible. Landside there is a bar, a baguette counter, a Tourist Information Centre (TIC Brno) that also sells city transport tickets, an Information and Customer Service Centre, and an ATM in the arrivals hall open 24 hours. Airside there is the duty-free shop and the lounge. That is the whole inventory, and section 4 explains why it matters more than it sounds.

One seasonal operating rule is worth knowing because it changes when you should turn up: in summer 2026 the airport moved check-in opening to three hours before scheduled departure, from 1 June to 30 September. Check the current notice on the airport’s check-in page before an early-summer flight rather than assuming the usual two hours.

What actually flies here

This is the part most guides get wrong, because Brno is two airports wearing one roof.

The scheduled network is Ryanair and nothing else. On the airport’s own summer 2026 schedule (29 March to 24 October) there are exactly three scheduled routes:

  • London Stansted — the busiest, several times a week
  • Milan Bergamo
  • Málaga

The charter network is where the passengers are. The airport lists thirty-two charter destinations across eleven countries:

Country Destinations
Greece Corfu, Heraklion, Chania, Kavala, Kos, Preveza, Rhodes, Thessaloniki, Volos, Zakynthos
Turkey Antalya, Bodrum, Izmir, Muğla-Dalaman
Spain Almeria, Fuerteventura, Murcia, Palma de Mallorca
Egypt Hurghada, Marsa Alam, Marsa Matruh
Tunisia Djerba, Enfidha, Monastir
Bulgaria Burgas, Varna
Montenegro Podgorica, Tivat
Italy Comiso, Lamezia Terme
Albania Tirana
Portugal Madeira

The carriers the airport lists are Aegean Airlines, Air Montenegro, Corendon Airlines, Electra Airways, Freebird Airlines, HelloJets, Neos, Ryanair and Smartwings — nine airlines, of which one is a conventional low-cost carrier and the rest are holiday and charter operators, Smartwings by a distance the largest.

The Eurostat figures make the shape unambiguous. Brno carried 704,384 passengers in 2025, down from 728,957 in 2024. Of those, 703,389 were international — domestic traffic was 995 people, i.e. effectively none — and 286,738 were on non-scheduled flights. Four in every ten passengers here are on a charter, and a good share of the “scheduled” remainder is Smartwings’ seasonal leisure flying to Greek islands and the Red Sea.

What that means for you: if you want a scheduled seat to a European city from Brno, you have three choices. If you want two weeks in Rhodes booked through a Czech travel agency, Brno is excellent and Prague would be a waste of three hours. Judge the airport on which of those you are.

Most of the flying here is low-cost or holiday-charter, so the baggage rules decide the real fare. Price it with our baggage fee checker, then read the specifics in the Ryanair baggage allowance guide, the Smartwings baggage allowance guide or the Aegean Airlines baggage allowance guide, and compare the fare itself with our flight price checker.

🛂 2. Schengen Yes, Euro No — Two Different Facts

Get this straight before you land, because conflating the two is the single most common mistake travellers make about Czechia.

Czechia is in the Schengen area. Arriving from another Schengen country — Italy, Spain, Greece, Portugal — there is no passport control at all.

Czechia is not in the Eurozone. The currency is the Czech koruna (CZK, written Kč). Euros are not legal tender, and while some tourist businesses will take them, the rate they give you is their own. Pay in koruna.

Those are two separate memberships and they do not move together. Do not assume that a Schengen stamp-free arrival means a euro-priced coffee.

EES, and who it applies to

The EU Entry/Exit System (EES) is fully operational. The European Commission states that EES became fully operational on 10 April 2026, completing a progressive roll-out begun in October 2025. Non-EU nationals travelling for a short stay — 90 days in any 180 — have their facial image, fingerprints and travel-document data recorded on their first crossing of an external border, then a faster biometric check on later crossings while that record stands. Refusals of entry go into the system too.

At Brno the external-border traffic is smaller than the passenger count suggests, because most of the charter network is inside Schengen: Greece, Spain, Italy, Portugal and Bulgaria are all internal. The routes that do cross an external border are the Turkish, Egyptian, Tunisian, Montenegrin, Albanian and UK ones — Antalya, Bodrum, Izmir, Dalaman, Hurghada, Marsa Alam, Marsa Matruh, Djerba, Enfidha, Monastir, Podgorica, Tivat, Tirana and London Stansted. On those, allow more time than the size of the building suggests, especially if two wide-body charters land together.

ETIAS is not in operation. The Commission’s Smart Borders page states that it is currently not running and that no applications for travel authorisations are being collected, and that the start date will be announced several months in advance. The fee is set at €20; under-18s, over-70s and qualifying family members of EU citizens are exempt from the fee but will still need an authorisation once it launches. Nobody can sell you a valid Czech ETIAS today.

Money, practically

  • The ATM in the arrivals hall is open 24 hours. Use it, or a bank ATM in town.
  • Refuse dynamic currency conversion. If a card terminal offers to charge you in euros or pounds instead of koruna, decline; the rate is set by the terminal, not your bank.
  • Cards are accepted almost everywhere in Brno, including on the transport ticket machines, but carry a couple of hundred koruna for village wine cellars in south Moravia.
  • Prices in this guide convert at the Czech National Bank’s fixing of 4 September 2026, €1 = 24.190 Kč. That rate moves. Treat every euro figure here as an approximation and the koruna figure as the real one.

🚌 3. A 25-Koruna Bus, a 500-Koruna Taxi, and a Train to Vienna Airport

Brno has quietly solved the airport-transfer problem that far larger cities charge a fortune for: there is no airport bus, because the airport is on the city network.

The city buses

The airport is served by ordinary Brno lines, and the airport’s own page gives the times:

Line Route Journey time Notes
21 Hlavní nádraží ↔ Brno Airport ~22 min At the main station it uses platform 11, inside the trolleybus loop
77 Úzká ↔ Brno Airport ~26 min The Úzká stop is opposite Galeria Vaňkovka
N89 Hlavní nádraží ↔ Brno Airport (night) ~20 min The main-station stop is on the tram tracks, track 4

The ordinary IDS JMK fare applies, in the airport’s own words — there is no airport supplement and no premium express product. The IDS JMK network plan for Brno, dated 7 July 2026, shows the stop “Letiště Tuřany – terminál” served by lines 21 and 77 and sitting in zone 101, with zone 610 starting immediately beyond it. So the Brno two-zone fare (100 + 101) is what you need, and on the IDS JMK price list the ticket is the 60-minute transfer ticket at 25 Kč (about €1.03), or 12 Kč on the reduced tariff. There is also an eight-journey, 45-minute ticket for zones 100+101 at 156 Kč if you are doing a lot of city travel.

Two rules that catch people out:

  1. Do not buy the 15-minute ticket. It costs 20 Kč and would save you five koruna, but the run into town is 20 to 26 minutes and the ticket would expire on board. Buy the 60-minute one.
  2. Buy before you board. Neither the ride nor a seat can be reserved in advance, and the ticket must be bought before boarding. Options at the airport: the paper ticket vending machine in the arrivals hall, the TIC Brno tourist desk, the mobile app, or the “Beep and Go” contactless system.

Children aged 6 to 10 and people over 70 travel free in zones 100 + 101, which is a genuine saving for a family.

The taxi

Brno Airport Taxi ranks directly in front of the arrivals hall and can be ordered on +420 545 521 234, 24 hours a day. The published price list:

Service Price
Airport → Brno centre (fixed) 500 Kč (≈ €21)
Start of hire 60 Kč
Per km, journeys up to 50 km 36 Kč
Per km, journeys over 50 km 30 Kč
Waiting 7 Kč/min
Transfer to Vienna, Bratislava or Ostrava 4,500 Kč (≈ €186)
Transfer to Prague 7,000 Kč (≈ €289)

At 500 Kč the city taxi is twenty times the bus fare. For one person with a small bag, take the bus. For three people arriving at midnight with luggage, it is defensible — and the N89 night bus exists anyway, so it is a comfort purchase, not a necessity.

The train to Vienna Airport

Here is the fact that changes how you should think about this region. There is a rail route between Brno and Vienna International Airport, and it is recognised inside the South Moravian integrated transport tariff: a holder of a rail ticket for the Brno – Vienna International Airport route travels free on Brno’s city network in zones 100 + 101, on a special QR ticket issued electronically by KORDIS JMK in the passenger’s name, valid four hours before the scheduled departure from Brno and four hours after the scheduled arrival into Brno.

In other words, the regional authority treats Vienna Airport as part of Brno’s transport catchment. Check current times and fares with the rail operators before you plan around it — but plan around it, because it means Vienna’s 32-million-passenger route map is genuinely available to you from Brno, and that is the real answer to “what if Brno doesn’t fly there”.

Parking

Parking is at the terminal, bookable online, and the price list has been in force since 1 January 2025:

Duration Price
First 20 minutes Free
Each hour, 1–4 hours 60 Kč
1 day (5–24 hours) 300 Kč (≈ €12)
2 days 550 Kč
3 days 650 Kč
7 days 1,300 Kč (≈ €54)
14 days 2,350 Kč

Blue-badge holders get 30 minutes free and 50% off the first two hours.

🛋️ 4. One Lounge, One Shop, and Both Cafés on the Wrong Side of Security

Brno has a real lounge, and it is more accessible than the airport’s size suggests. The Airport Lounge is on the first floor of the departure hall, behind the security checkpoint, with refreshments, Wi-Fi and somewhere to work. Access is granted on a business-class ticket, or by Priority Pass, LoungeKey, Diners Club or Dragon Pass, or as a client of selected travel agencies, or by buying a single-entry pass at the Customer Service Desk. Opening hours follow the flight schedule.

The airport does not publish a walk-up price, so if you are paying rather than using a card programme, ask at the Customer Service Desk before you clear security.

Now the part worth planning around. Both places to eat are landside. The airport lists exactly two:

  • The Old Silver Bar — soft and alcoholic drinks, coffee and Starobrno beer, in the public part of the departure hall
  • Baguetteria — build-your-own baguettes, salads and desserts, also in the public part of the departure hall, and the airport explicitly notes that its food can be taken through security onto the aircraft

Airside, the only retail is the Travel Fun Shop duty free — perfume, cosmetics, spirits, tobacco and confectionery — in the non-public part of the departure hall.

So: eat before security, or buy your baguette before security and carry it through. That single sentence is the most useful thing in this section. If you clear security hungry at Brno without a lounge card, your options are duty-free confectionery.

Also on the landside: the TIC Brno desk, which does double duty as a tourist information point and a public-transport ticket seller, and the 24-hour ATM.

🍽️ 5. Starobrno, Svíčková and the Wine the Czechs Keep for Themselves

Bohemia gets the beer reputation and Moravia gets the wine, and Brno sits at the top of the wine half. Eat and drink accordingly.

  • Starobrno is the city’s own beer and the one on tap at the airport bar. It is what to order first, and it is what a Brno pub will pour without being asked.
  • Svíčková na smetaně — beef in a cream-and-root-vegetable sauce with bread dumplings and a spoon of cranberry. The Czech dish that repays doing properly, and Brno restaurants do.
  • Guláš with knedlíky — thicker and darker than the Hungarian version, and served with dumplings rather than potatoes.
  • Utopenci — pickled sausages in vinegar with onion, the standard beer snack, and an acquired taste worth acquiring.
  • Moravian wine — the reason to come. South Moravia around Znojmo, Mikulov and Valtice is the country’s wine region, and the whites are the strength: dry, aromatic, high-acid and almost entirely drunk inside Czechia, which is why you have not had them. In autumn, ask for burčák, the partly fermented young wine that appears for a few weeks and cannot be exported.

At the airport itself, your realistic choice is a coffee and a Starobrno at the Old Silver Bar or a made-to-order baguette from the Baguetteria — both landside. Take the baguette through security.

💡 6. Insider: Brno vs Prague vs Vienna, and What Moravia Is For

The comparison, done with real numbers

Brno is squeezed between two of the biggest airports in central Europe, and pretending otherwise would be useless. On Eurostat’s 2025 figures:

Airport Passengers, 2025
Vienna 32,439,804
Prague 17,724,138
Brno 704,384

Vienna is roughly 46 times Brno’s size and Prague roughly 25 times. There is no route map argument to be had. So the honest rules:

  • Fly into Brno if it is where you are going, or if you have bought a package to Greece, Turkey, Egypt or Tunisia from a Czech operator. The transfer is a 22-minute city bus for 25 Kč, which neither Prague nor Vienna can match, and the terminal takes minutes to clear.
  • Fly into Brno if you are coming from Stansted, Bergamo or Málaga and Brno or south Moravia is the destination. Those three routes exist precisely because they work.
  • Use Vienna if you need a scheduled flight Brno does not have, and remember the rail link to Vienna Airport — the South Moravian transport authority already treats it as part of Brno’s catchment, and gives you free Brno city travel around your rail ticket. This is the strongest option most visitors have never heard of.
  • Use Prague if your trip is Prague, or if you need a Czech domestic connection — Brno has essentially none. Domestic traffic at Brno in 2025 was 995 passengers for the entire year.
  • Do not assume the Brno taxi rates to Prague or Vienna are a sensible way to travel. The airport quotes 7,000 Kč to Prague and 4,500 Kč to Vienna, which is a benchmark for a private transfer, not a plan.

Brno itself, which people skip and should not

Brno is the Czech Republic’s second city, a university and courts town rather than a tourist one, which is exactly why it is good. Two things to see, and they are both excellent.

Villa Tugendhat is the reason architects come to Brno. Built in 1929–1930 for Greta and Fritz Tugendhat to a design by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2001 for its architectural purity, the way it dissolves the wall between interior and exterior, its technical equipment and its state of preservation. Visits are by guided tour only — a 90-minute tour of the whole building including the technical rooms, or a 60-minute tour of the main living floor — with the garden and exhibition rooms included in the ticket. Tours are timed and the house is small: book before you fly, not when you arrive.

Špilberk is the fortress on the hill directly over the old town, and the walk up it is the best half hour in the city. Below it, Brno’s centre is compact, walkable and full of the kind of bars and cafés a student city produces.

South Moravia, which is the real reason

Thirty minutes to an hour south of the airport is one of the strangest and best landscapes in central Europe. The Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1996: between the 17th and 20th centuries the ruling dukes of Liechtenstein turned their south-Moravian estates into a single designed landscape, marrying Baroque architecture — much of it by Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach — and the classical and neo-Gothic castles of Lednice and Valtice with countryside laid out on English romantic principles. At 200 km² it is one of the largest artificial landscapes in Europe, and you can cycle across it.

Around it is the wine. Znojmo, Mikulov and Valtice are the names, and the region is inside the same integrated transport system as Brno, so a regional ticket gets you there without a car. Cellars, cycle routes between villages, and in September and October the burčák.

The honest verdict

BRQ is a well-run small airport with an unusually good bus, an unusually good runway, a lounge you can talk your way into, one duty-free shop and no food after security. Its scheduled map is three routes and its real business is holiday charters. Use it when Brno, south Moravia or a Czech package holiday is the trip — the 25-koruna, 22-minute transfer is genuinely best-in-class, and you will be out of the terminal before you would have found your gate in Vienna. Use Vienna or Prague when you need the network, and use the rail link to Vienna Airport rather than a 4,500-koruna taxi.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get from Brno airport to the city centre, and what does it cost? +
By ordinary city bus — there is no special airport service and no airport surcharge. Line 21 reaches Hlavní nádraží, the main railway station, in about 22 minutes (platform 11 in the trolleybus loop); line 77 reaches Úzká, opposite Galeria Vaňkovka, in about 26 minutes; the night line N89 takes about 20 minutes. Buy a 60-minute IDS JMK transfer ticket for zones 100 + 101 at 25 Kč — about €1 — before boarding.
Which bus ticket should I buy at Brno airport, and where? +
The one you want is the 60-minute transfer ticket for zones 100 + 101, 25 Kč on the tariff in force from 1 July 2026 (12 Kč reduced). Do not buy the 20 Kč 15-minute ticket — the ride into town takes 20 to 26 minutes and it would expire on board. Tickets must be bought before boarding: the vending machine in the arrivals hall, the TIC Brno desk, the mobile app, or the “Beep and Go” contactless system.
How much is a taxi from Brno airport? +
Brno Airport Taxi ranks directly in front of the arrivals hall and takes orders on +420 545 521 234, 24 hours. The published fixed fare to the city centre is 500 Kč, about €21 — roughly twenty times the bus. Metered elsewhere it is 60 Kč to start, 36 Kč per kilometre up to 50 km and 30 Kč beyond, with waiting at 7 Kč a minute. Transfers to Vienna, Bratislava or Ostrava are quoted at 4,500 Kč and Prague at 7,000 Kč.
Does Czechia use the euro, and is it in Schengen? +
Two separate answers. Czechia is in the Schengen area, so there is no passport control arriving from another Schengen country. Czechia is not in the Eurozone — the currency is the Czech koruna (CZK, Kč). Euros are not legal tender and businesses that accept them set their own rate. The Czech National Bank’s fixing on 4 September 2026 was €1 = 24.190 Kč. There is a 24-hour ATM in the arrivals hall; refuse dynamic currency conversion at card terminals.
Do I need an ETIAS for Czechia in 2026, and does EES apply at Brno? +
ETIAS is not in operation. The European Commission states it is currently not running and that no applications for travel authorisations are being collected, with the start date to be announced several months in advance; the fee is set at €20. EES does apply — the EU Entry/Exit System became fully operational on 10 April 2026. At Brno it bites mainly on the Turkish, Egyptian, Tunisian, Montenegrin, Albanian and London Stansted flights, since most of the charter map is inside Schengen.
Where can I fly from Brno, and how much is charter? +
The scheduled network is three Ryanair routesLondon Stansted, Milan Bergamo and Málaga — on the airport’s summer 2026 schedule. Everything else is holiday flying: the airport lists 32 charter destinations across 11 countries, ten of them in Greece, plus Turkey, Spain, Egypt, Tunisia, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Italy, Albania and Madeira. In 2025, 286,738 of 704,384 passengers — 41% — were on non-scheduled flights, and domestic traffic was 995 people for the whole year.
Is there a lounge at Brno airport, and can I eat after security? +
There is one Airport Lounge, on the first floor of departures behind security, entered on a business-class ticket, Priority Pass, LoungeKey, Diners Club or Dragon Pass, selected travel-agency bookings, or a single-entry pass bought at the Customer Service Desk — no walk-up price is published. Both places to eat are landside: The Old Silver Bar and the Baguetteria. Airside there is only the duty-free shop, so buy your baguette before security — the airport says you may carry it through.
Should I fly into Brno, Prague or Vienna? +
On Eurostat’s 2025 figures Vienna handled 32.4 million passengers and Prague 17.7 million against Brno’s 704,384 — there is no network argument. Use Brno when Brno or south Moravia is the destination, or for a Czech package holiday: the transfer is a 22-minute bus for 25 Kč. Otherwise use Vienna, and note the Brno – Vienna International Airport rail route, whose ticket also gives free travel on Brno’s city network for four hours either side.
