🌍 About Boise

Boise's real distinction is Basque: it has one of the largest Basque communities outside Spain, centered on the Basque Block downtown, with a Basque Museum, a social center, and the Basque Market — where they ladle out paella from a giant pan at noon on Wednesdays and Fridays. Order the croquetas and a kalimotxo (red wine and cola, genuinely good). Every five years the city throws Jaialdi, the biggest Basque festival in the US; the next is 2030. Beyond that, the Boise River Greenbelt runs 25 miles through the middle of town and the Foothills trails start right at the city edge. Come May–June or September–October for mild days. July–August hits 90–100°F, and August often brings wildfire haze, so skip it unless you're here for Jaialdi.
