Old Delhi and New Delhi are two different cities bolted together. The half worth your time is Old Delhi — Shahjahanabad, the Mughal capital, where Chandni Chowk's lanes are too narrow for cars and Jama Masjid is India's largest mosque. Eat butter chicken and dal makhani where they were actually invented: Daryaganj, in the 1940s, by refugee cooks from Peshawar who put tandoori chicken in a tomato-and-butter gravy. The rich version everyone copies started here. Come October to March, when days sit around 15–25°C and the heat breaks; April to June is brutal, pushing 45°C. The honest catch: late November through January brings serious smog, the air genuinely hazardous some weeks.
