It's the genuine local meal, not a tourist dish. The thing to see isn't the Gateway of India but Marine Drive and the streets behind it: Mumbai has one of the world's largest collections of Art Deco buildings, a curve of 1930s apartment blocks facing the Arabian Sea, lit up at night as the "Queen's Necklace." Come November to February, when it's dry and around 20–30°C. Skip June to September — the monsoon waterlogs the city and suspends the commuter trains, though fares drop hard then if you'll gamble on rain. March to May is brutally hot and humid.
