🌍 About N’Djamena
N'Djamena sits right on the Chari River, looking across the water at Kousséri in Cameroon — pirogues shuttle people and goods between the two banks all day, and the Friendship Bridge is the busy land crossing. The riverside is where the city exhales in the evening. Eat *daraba*, the everyday stew of okra, greens and sweet potato thickened with ground peanuts, scooped up with *la boule*, a dense ball of sorghum or millet dough; the Chari also puts good grilled tilapia on plates. For crafts, the artisan stalls near the Grand Marché are the real thing — woodcarvers and leatherworkers actually working. Come December to February: dry, dust-hazed, and as cool as it gets. Skip March to May, when afternoons push past 40°C, and the June–October rains.
