🌍 About İzmir
İzmir is Turkey's third city and its most relaxed — secular, Aegean, built around a bay rather than a historic core. The thing to eat is boyoz, a flaky Sephardic pastry brought by Jewish settlers in the 1490s and still made nowhere else in Turkey; locals have it for breakfast with a hard-boiled egg. Kemeraltı, the sprawling 17th-century bazaar, is the real draw — a working market of spice stalls and coffee houses, not a tourist set-piece. Walk the Kordon waterfront at sunset, and use the city as a base: Ephesus, one of the best-preserved Roman cities anywhere, is about an hour south near Selçuk. Come April–June or September–October for 15–25°C and calm beaches. July–August tops 30°C; winters are mild but wet.
