🌍 About Conakry

Conakry sprawls along the Kaloum peninsula, a thin finger of land poking into the Atlantic, with the Îles de Los just offshore — a short boat hop to quiet beaches when the city gets to be much. The landmark is the Grande Mosquée Fayçal, the largest mosque in sub-Saharan Africa, paid for by Saudi royals and topped with green-tiled minarets visible from across town. Eat poulet yassa: chicken marinated in lemon and mustard, buried under caramelized onions. After 6pm, when the heat breaks, head to Rue de Commerce in Kaloum, where charcoal braziers grill fish in a haze of woodsmoke. Come December–April for dry, sunny days.
