🌍 About Podgorica

Most travellers treat Podgorica as a transit point, and honestly that's fair — the city was bombed flat in WWII and rebuilt in socialist concrete, so it's light on old streets. What survives is Stara Varoš, the small Ottoman quarter by the Ribnica river, with the 1667 Sahat Kula clock tower and a stone bridge over the gorge. The real reason to land here is Lake Skadar, the Balkans' largest lake, 30 minutes south — wineries, pelicans, and boat trips through lily fields. Eat at a konoba: grilled fish from the lake, or priganice (fried dough with honey and cheese) for breakfast. Come in May or September — Podgorica is one of Europe's hottest capitals, regularly topping 40°C in July and August, when the city empties and bakes. Winter is mild and cheap.
