Wingo Baggage Allowance 2026: Cabin, Checked & Fees

✓ Policy web-verified 2026-06-20

Wingo is Colombia’s bare-bones low-cost carrier — a Copa Airlines subsidiary flying domestic Colombia plus international hops to the Caribbean, Central America and northern South America. On its cheapest fare, Go Basic, you get exactly one thing: a personal item up to 10 kg, 40 x 35 x 25 cm that fits under the seat. No overhead cabin bag, no checked bag. That under-seat item is genuinely generous on weight (10 kg, where most LCCs cap the freebie at 7-8 kg), but if your wheeled carry-on won’t squash under the seat in front of you, it doesn’t fly free on Go Basic.

This is the same on every route — domestic Colombia or international, the cheapest fare strips the same way. Unlike full-service carriers that quietly bundle a checked bag into long-haul Basic fares, Wingo does not: there is no intercontinental “freebie” exception here, because Wingo doesn’t fly intercontinental. Want the overhead cabin bag (12 kg, 55 x 45 x 25 cm)? That starts at Go Standard. Want a checked bag (23 kg)? That’s Go Plus or higher, or you buy it as an add-on.

Baggage by region & route

Checked-bag inclusion on the cheapest fare can depend on where you fly, not just the fare name. Here is what the lowest fare includes by route:

Route / region Cheapest fare includes
Domestic Colombia (cheapest fare) No checked bag (personal item only)
International — Caribbean / Central & South America (cheapest fare) No checked bag (personal item only)

What each fare includes

Fare Personal Cabin Checked
Go Basic 10 kg personal item Not included Not included
Go Standard 10 kg personal item 12 kg cabin bag Not included
Go Plus 10 kg personal item 12 kg cabin bag 1 x 23 kg
Go Extra 10 kg personal item 12 kg cabin bag 1 x 23 kg + WingoFlex changes

What you actually get on a cheap fare

What you actually get on a cheap Wingo deal fare: a single under-seat personal item, 10 kg, and nothing else. There is no regional loophole — Wingo flies short and medium-haul only, so the cheapest fare strips the same on a Bogota-Medellin domestic hop as on a Bogota-Cancun or Bogota-Buenos Aires international run. If your carry-on is a wheeled cabin case rather than a backpack, budget to move up to Go Standard for the overhead bag, or it gets bounced at the gate.

Need a real suitcase? Buy the checked bag online when you book — it’s cheapest there, from COP 35,000 domestic or USD 25 international per bag per leg, and that buys you 23 kg. Pay at the airport and it costs noticeably more. The smarter move on a deal fare is usually to book Go Plus outright if you know you need a checked bag, since the bundled bag is often priced near the standalone add-on while throwing in the overhead cabin allowance too.

Oversize, sports & special items

Checked pieces max out at 158 linear cm; anything heavier than 23 kg up to 32 kg pays an overweight surcharge, and Wingo will not accept any single piece over 32 kg — split the load. Oversized and special items (sports equipment, bicycles, musical instruments) are handled as special baggage subject to size/weight limits and additional fees, and should be declared in advance via the call centre or at check-in rather than assumed free.

2024-2026 change: Wingo restructured into the Go Basic / Go Standard / Go Plus / Go Extra fare family and, from 6 February 2024, lifted the standard checked-bag weight from 20 kg to 23 kg at no extra cost. The under-seat personal item allowance also sits at a comparatively roomy 10 kg, which softens the blow of Go Basic having no cabin or checked bag.

Frequently asked questions

Does Wingo's cheapest fare include a checked bag?

No. The cheapest fare, Go Basic, includes only a personal item (10 kg, 40 x 35 x 25 cm) that fits under the seat. It includes no overhead cabin bag and no checked bag, on every route — domestic or international.

Does Go Basic include a carry-on cabin bag?

No. The overhead cabin bag (12 kg, 55 x 45 x 25 cm) is only included from Go Standard upward. Go Basic gives you the under-seat personal item only.

How heavy can my free personal item be on Wingo?

Up to 10 kg, with dimensions 40 x 35 x 25 cm, included on all fares. That’s more generous than most low-cost carriers, which usually cap the free item at 7-8 kg.

How much does a Wingo checked bag cost?

It starts from around COP 35,000 on domestic flights and from USD 25 on international flights, per bag per route, when bought online in advance. Buying at the airport costs more. The bag allows up to 23 kg.

What is Wingo's checked baggage weight limit?

23 kg per piece (up to 158 linear cm), with a maximum of three checked pieces. Bags between 23 and 32 kg incur an overweight surcharge, and anything over 32 kg is not accepted.

Does Wingo include a checked bag on international long-haul routes?

No. Wingo only operates short and medium-haul flights within the Americas, and the cheapest fare never includes a checked bag — there is no long-haul exception like some full-service carriers offer.

Which Wingo fares include a free checked bag?

Go Plus and Go Extra include one 23 kg checked bag. Go Basic and Go Standard do not — you must add the bag separately.

In what currency does Wingo charge for bags?

Domestic Colombian flights are charged in Colombian pesos (COP); international flights are charged in US dollars (USD).
