🌍 About Cancún
Cancun's beachfront Hotel Zone is a resort strip — the real Yucatán is downtown in El Centro. Head to Parque de las Palapas in the evening, where food stalls serve cochinita pibil: pork slow-roasted in achiote and sour (bitter) orange, which replaces lime here and gives it a tangy, earthy edge you won't find further north in Mexico. A plate downtown runs a few dollars; the same in the Hotel Zone is five times that. Best window is December to March — dry, clear Caribbean water, and almost no sargassum. The catch for deal-hunters: the cheapest fares land in summer, which is exactly sargassum season (April–August, worst June–August) plus hurricane risk peaking September–October. November is the sweet spot — near-perfect conditions at off-season prices.
