Miami runs on Cuban culture, and the place to feel it is Little Havana's Calle Ocho (SW 8th Street): café cubano at a walk-up window, men playing dominoes at Máximo Gómez Park, live music spilling out of Ball & Chain. The other Miami is South Beach's Art Deco district — a dense run of pastel 1930s buildings along Ocean Drive, the largest concentration anywhere. Eat stone crab claws: they're in season October 15 to May 1, served chilled with mustard sauce, and only the claws are taken so the crab regrows them. Joe's Stone Crab has done it since 1913. Come November–April for warm, dry, low-humidity days — but that's peak season, so crowds and prices climb. Summer fares are cheapest and the beaches are emptier, the trade-off being heat, afternoon thunderstorms, and hurricane risk that peaks August–October.
