Cheap Flights Frankfurt to New York 2026 — Fares, Airlines & Best Time to Book

Frankfurt to New York is one of Europe’s busiest transatlantic corridors, served by a wide choice of non-stop flights in about 8h 45m westbound. Because so many airlines compete — German, American and even a fifth-freedom Asian carrier — fares are among the most reasonable of any long-haul route out of Germany, and in our latest check the cheapest fare on the whole route was a non-stop rather than a connection. This guide covers who really flies it, what a return costs in euros, and when to book.

Route: Frankfurt (FRA) → New York (JFK / EWR)

Distance: approximately 6,200 km (3,850 miles)

Non-stop flight time: about 8h 45m westbound; roughly 7h 40m on the return, which is quicker because the eastbound leg flies with the Atlantic jet stream

Direct flights: Yes, and plenty — three-quarters of the cheapest fares we found were non-stop. Condor, Lufthansa, Delta and Singapore Airlines fly non-stop to JFK; Lufthansa and United fly non-stop to Newark (EWR). Condor held the largest share of the cheap fares.

Fares from Frankfurt to New York (EUR)

New York is a year-round destination, so fares track demand rather than weather. The summer holidays (June–August) and the Christmas/New Year peak are the priciest. The table below tracks that demand pattern through the year; for money, use the measured figures underneath it, which come from a live fare check rather than an estimate.

Month Typical return (economy) Demand
January low
February low-medium
March medium
April medium
May medium-high
June high
July very high
August high
September medium
October medium
November low-medium
December very high (holidays)

Reference points from a live fare check on 5 August 2026 — the 100 cheapest economy returns, hand baggage only, for departures between August 2026 and January 2027. Fares ran €448–€712 with a median of €509; four in five sat between €499 and €571, so treat about €500 as the going rate and anything under €470 as a genuinely good return. On airports, the usual advice was inverted in this window: non-stops into JFK ran from €448 with a median of €519, while Newark started at €506 with a median of €586 — JFK was the cheaper of the two, not Newark. Newark has gone much lower historically: across 76 tracked observations its floor is €287, so it is worth pricing both.

Airlines on this route

Non-stop (about 8h 45m out, 7h 40m back):

  • Condor — the Frankfurt leisure carrier, and the price leader by a clear margin: it held about a third of the cheapest hundred fares, all non-stop to JFK. If you are chasing the lowest number, start here.
  • Lufthansa — the most frequent operator from its Frankfurt hub, with wide-body flights to both JFK and Newark. It also operates many of the Newark flights that are sold under United’s code, so a “United” ticket may well be a Lufthansa aircraft.
  • Singapore Airlines — a genuine fifth-freedom leg to JFK on the way from Singapore, flown on Singapore’s own aircraft. Well-rated economy, and it priced competitively in our check rather than at a premium.
  • Delta Air Lines — non-stop to JFK. Worth knowing when you search: its flights are widely ticketed under Air France and KLM codes, so the booking may name a SkyTeam partner instead of Delta.
  • United Airlines — non-stop to its Newark (EWR) hub. In our sample Newark was the dearer of the two New York airports, so compare it against a JFK fare before booking.

Connecting (rarely worth it here — see the note below):

  • Iberia via Madrid — the most common connection in our check by some way, on Iberia’s own aircraft for both legs. Priced around the non-stops rather than below them.
  • Icelandair via Reykjavík — a light-luggage option with a short first hop, into either JFK or Newark.
  • British Airways via London and Turkish Airlines via Istanbul — both serve the route, but neither appeared among the 100 cheapest fares we checked.

On this route the non-stops are the smart pick, and the numbers are unusually clear about it. The cheapest fare of any kind in our check was a non-stop at €448; the cheapest connection was €463, for several extra hours and an extra chance to miss a flight. Connections did have a slightly lower median (€503 against €524), so a specific date can go the other way — but on this corridor a one-stop only makes sense when it is clearly, not marginally, cheaper.

When to book & how to save

  • Book 2–4 months ahead for the best balance of price and seat choice; transatlantic fares to New York rarely improve in the final weeks.
  • Avoid the peaks — July, August and the Christmas fortnight are the most expensive. In the window we could actually price, September and October held nearly two-thirds of the cheapest fares.
  • Be flexible on the New York airport: Newark (EWR) and JFK are priced separately and the gap is real — in our check JFK non-stops ran a median €519 against Newark’s €586, so check both rather than assuming Newark is the budget option.
  • Check the fare bundle: the cheapest “Light” or “Basic Economy” fares exclude a checked bag — compare the all-in price before booking.
  • Remember the ESTA: German and most EU citizens need an approved ESTA (currently US$40) before travelling; apply a few days ahead.

Arriving in New York

Most flights land at John F. Kennedy (JFK) in south-east Queens or Newark Liberty (EWR) in New Jersey. From JFK, the AirTrain (US$8.50) connects to the subway and Long Island Rail Road — about US$11 all-in with the subway, roughly 50–70 minutes into Manhattan. The yellow-cab flat fare is still US$70, but the New York State congestion surcharge, the MTA fee, tolls and a tip realistically put a taxi at US$90–$115, so the train is not a marginal saving. From Newark, the AirTrain links to NJ Transit trains into Penn Station (around US$16, about 30 minutes). Ride-hailing works from both but surges at peak times. Check which airport your ticket uses — they are on opposite sides of the city.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the flight from Frankfurt to New York?

Westbound (Frankfurt to New York) the non-stop takes about 8 hours 45 minutes, and we measured a range of 8h 25m to 9h 01m across seventy-odd flights. The eastbound return is shorter, around 7 hours 40 minutes, because it flies with the Atlantic jet stream rather than against it — it just feels longer, because it is usually an overnight.

Are there direct flights from Frankfurt to New York?

Yes. Lufthansa, Delta and Singapore Airlines fly non-stop to JFK, United flies non-stop to Newark, and Condor also serves New York non-stop. With so many carriers competing, this is one of the best-served transatlantic routes from Germany.

How much does it cost to fly from Frankfurt to New York?

In a live check of the 100 cheapest economy returns for departures between August 2026 and January 2027, fares ran €448–€712 with a median of €509. The cheapest non-stop was €448 into JFK. Our sample did not reach July, August or the Christmas fortnight, which are dearer than anything shown here.

What is the cheapest month to fly from Frankfurt to New York?

Of the months we could price, September and October were clearly the cheapest — together they held 64 of the 100 cheapest returns, from €448. Our window ran from August 2026 to the end of January 2027, so February to July could not be tested. Avoid the summer holidays and the Christmas–New Year fortnight, which are the busiest and most expensive weeks of the year.

Which airlines fly from Frankfurt to New York?

Non-stop to JFK: Condor (the price leader in our check), Lufthansa, Delta and Singapore Airlines. Non-stop to Newark: Lufthansa and United. Two things worth knowing when you search — Delta’s flights are widely sold under Air France and KLM codes, and many United-coded Newark flights are operated by Lufthansa. Connecting alternatives include Iberia via Madrid and Icelandair via Reykjavík; British Airways and Turkish Airlines fly the route but did not appear among the cheapest fares.

Which airport do I fly into in New York?

Either JFK in Queens or Newark Liberty (EWR) in New Jersey, depending on the airline. Condor, Lufthansa, Delta and Singapore fly to JFK; United and Lufthansa fly to Newark. Both have good rail links into Manhattan, so check your ticket before arranging onward transport — and note that JFK was the cheaper airport in our latest fare check.

How far in advance should I book Frankfurt to New York flights?

Aim to book 2 to 4 months ahead. Transatlantic fares to New York tend to climb as departure nears, especially over the summer and the Christmas peak, so early booking almost always wins. Fares rarely drop at the last minute on this route.

Do I need an ESTA to fly to New York?

Yes — German and most EU citizens need an approved ESTA (currently around US$40) before boarding a US-bound flight, even for a short visit. Apply online a few days in advance; approval is usually quick but can occasionally take longer, so don’t leave it to the airport.
