Chair Airlines Baggage Allowance 2026: Cabin, Checked & Fees

✓ Policy web-verified 2026-07-06

Chair Airlines is the Zurich-based leisure carrier flying holidaymakers from ZRH to the Balkans, Greece, Egypt, Morocco and Spain, and its baggage model is simpler and stricter than the big legacy carriers you might expect at Zurich. The cheapest ticket, the Basic fare, gives you exactly one thing in the hold: nothing. You get a single cabin bag and that is the entire free allowance.

That cabin bag is generous by ultra-low-cost standards — a full 8 kg and up to 55 × 40 × 20 cm, stowed overhead or under the seat. The trap is that Chair does not advertise a separate free small personal item on top of it. You are entitled to one piece of hand luggage, full stop. If you want a suitcase in the hold, you either book up to Flex or Comfort, or you pay per leg. Plan that before you get to the airport, because paying at the gate is where leisure fares get expensive.

Cabin bag & personal item

Item Allowance
Personal item Not offered as a separate free allowance. Chair permits one piece of hand luggage per passenger — there is no additional under-seat item guaranteed on top of it.
Cabin / overhead bag One piece, max 8 kg, max 55 × 40 × 20 cm. Applies on every fare including Basic. Must fit overhead or under the seat in front.

Checked baggage & fees

Basic No checked baggage included. Add a hold bag by paying the extra-baggage fee (CHF 50 per leg) or by booking a higher fare.
Flex 1 piece up to 23 kg included.
Comfort 1 piece up to 32 kg included.
Infant (under 2) 1 piece up to 10 kg, plus stroller/child seat carried free.
Extra / excess bag CHF 50 per flight leg (roughly €53). Each piece is capped at 32 kg regardless of fare. Not available on Jerez flights.

What each fare includes

Fare Personal Cabin Checked
Basic 1 hand bag (8 kg) Included None
Flex 1 hand bag (8 kg) Included 1 × 23 kg
Comfort 1 hand bag (8 kg) Included 1 × 32 kg

What you actually get on a cheap fare

Chair works on a weight system, not a piece system — your Flex or Comfort ticket buys you one bag at a set weight ceiling (23 or 32 kg), not two smaller bags. And that 32 kg ceiling is a hard safety limit on every individual piece, so you cannot overstuff a single case past it even if you have weight allowance to spare. If you are travelling as a couple on Basic fares to save money, do the maths: two extra-bag fees at CHF 50 per leg each on a return means four charges, and at that point booking Flex from the start is usually cheaper and less stressful.

Oversize, sports & special items

Sports equipment — skis, bikes, golf, diving gear — is free on all fares, which is unusually good for a leisure carrier, but you must register it at least 48 hours before departure through the Service Center or Manage Booking. Musical instruments carried in the cabin must respect the 8 kg cabin limit and a combined length + width + height under 125 cm. Oversized items that go in the hold are charged at CHF 50 per leg. Note that extra baggage and sports gear cannot be carried on Jerez routes, so check your specific destination.

Frequently asked questions

Does the cheapest Chair Airlines fare include a checked bag?

No. The Basic fare includes only one piece of cabin hand luggage (up to 8 kg, 55 × 40 × 20 cm) and no hold baggage. You have to either book the Flex or Comfort fare or pay the extra-baggage fee of CHF 50 per flight leg to put a bag in the hold.

Do I get a free personal item as well as a cabin bag?

Chair does not advertise a separate free personal item. The rule is one piece of hand luggage per passenger, up to 8 kg. Treat your 8 kg cabin bag as your whole free carry-on allowance rather than assuming an extra under-seat bag is guaranteed.

How much is an extra checked bag on Chair Airlines?

An extra or excess bag costs CHF 50 per flight leg, which is roughly €53. Remember that means each direction is charged separately, so a return trip costs the fee twice. Extra baggage is not available on Jerez flights.

What is the weight limit for a checked bag?

Flex includes one bag up to 23 kg and Comfort up to 32 kg. No single piece may ever exceed 32 kg, regardless of your fare or total allowance, for safety reasons.

Can I bring sports equipment like skis or a bike?

Yes, and it is free on all fares including Basic — unusually generous for a leisure airline. You must register the equipment at least 48 hours before departure via the Service Center or Manage Booking. Sports gear cannot be carried to or from Jerez.

What is the baggage allowance for infants?

Infants under two years get one checked piece up to 10 kg, and a stroller or child seat is carried free in addition to that.

What are Chair Airlines' cabin bag dimensions?

One cabin bag per passenger, maximum 8 kg and maximum 55 × 40 × 20 cm. It must fit in the overhead bin or under the seat in front. Anything larger goes to the hold for CHF 50 per leg.
