Cheap Flights Munich to Cape Verde 2026 — Fares, Airlines & Best Time to Book

Cape Verde — the island of Sal in particular — has become one of Germany’s favourite winter-sun escapes, and Munich flies there nonstop. Around 4,600 km southwest into the Atlantic off West Africa, Sal delivers steady trade winds, long white beaches and reliable warmth when Bavaria is grey. TUI fly runs the direct leisure service from Munich, so the six-hour hop lands you straight on the sand without a connection — though the cheapest returns we can price are not the nonstop at all, but two-ticket self-transfers through Barcelona or Milan with a night in the connecting city.

Route: Munich (MUC) → Sal (Amílcar Cabral Intl, SID), Cape Verde
Distance: ~4,600 km / ~2,860 miles
Non-stop flight time: ~6h
Direct flights: Yes — TUI fly is the only airline operating the nonstop Munich–Sal, on a seasonal leisure schedule of about two flights a week, weighted to the German winter. Connections through Barcelona, Milan, Zurich or Lisbon are also available.

Fares from Munich to Cape Verde (EUR)

Cape Verde is warm all year, but German charter demand is firmly a winter-sun story. The nonstops run hardest from roughly October to April, when Sal is the antidote to a Munich winter — that is when frequencies and prices both peak, with Christmas, New Year and February half-term the dearest windows. Summer sees thinner nonstop schedules and softer fares, though the islands stay pleasantly warm and breezy. If the nonstop is quiet in your month there are connections, though the cheap ones run through Barcelona or Milan rather than Lisbon. Across the hundred cheapest returns we can currently price, nothing sold below €305: under about €362 is a genuinely good return, €362–492 is the normal spread with a median near €429, and above about €492 is a peak-date or full-service premium.

Month Typical return (economy) Demand
January High
February High
March High
April Medium
May Low
June Low
July Medium
August Medium
September Low
October High
November High
December Very high

Munich–Sal is a route we track well: the cheapest fares we have logged sit around €232, a genuinely good deal lands near €331, and typical returns cluster around €376. Treat these as indicative economy returns, not a quote.

Airlines on this route

Non-stop (seasonal, winter-weighted):

  • TUI fly: the operator of the Munich–Sal nonstop — about two flights a week in season, busiest through the German winter-sun months. It held 62 of the hundred cheapest returns we priced, at €331–513.

Connecting (where the cheapest fares actually are):

  • Vueling and easyJet — via Barcelona or Milan Malpensa: the cheapest returns in our sample at €305–320, all departing in September. The catch is real: the €305 itinerary leaves Munich at 20:55, lands in Barcelona at 23:15 and only flies on at 15:10 the following afternoon, so it is an overnight in Barcelona and a next-day arrival in Sal. It is also two separate tickets, so you collect your bag and check in again, and a missed connection is your problem rather than the airline’s.
  • SWISS — via Zurich: a single-ticket connection at €511–512, under an hour longer end to end than flying direct.
  • TAP Air Portugal — via Lisbon: the year-round routing, with frequent Lisbon–Sal service — but at €517–521 it was the dearest option in our whole sample, not the value alternative.
  • Cabo Verde Airlines: the national carrier feeds Sal from its Lisbon operation and can be paired with a European connection. It did not appear at any price in the fares we sampled, which ranks it rather than rules it out.

When to book & how to save

  • Book winter-sun trips (October to March) early — 2–4 months ahead — as the seasonal nonstop has limited weekly seats that sell out around Christmas and February half-term.
  • For value, look at May, June and September: warm, windy and quiet, with the softest fares of the year.
  • Compare the nonstop against a connection, but check which connection: the Barcelona and Milan self-transfers were the cheapest fares we could find and undercut the nonstop by roughly €25, at the cost of about fifteen extra hours and a second ticket. The Zurich and Lisbon routings both cost more than flying direct.
  • Charter-style nonstops sometimes price baggage and seating separately; read the fare rules so a “cheap” ticket does not balloon once you add a suitcase.
  • Cape Verde requires no visa for short stays for most EU visitors, but there is an airport security fee (TSA) to pre-register — sort it before you travel.

Arriving in Cape Verde

Nonstops land at Amílcar Cabral International Airport (SID) on Sal, near the town of Espargos in the north of the island. Almost everyone is heading to the resort strip at Santa Maria on the south coast, about 18 km away. There is no train or useful public bus for visitors, so transfers are by taxi or a pre-booked hotel shuttle. A taxi to Santa Maria takes around 20 minutes and typically costs about 2,000–2,500 escudos (roughly €18–25) — the escudo is pegged to the euro, and drivers will usually quote a flat fare, so confirm it before you get in. Many hotels include the transfer in package rates.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the flight from Munich to Cape Verde?

The nonstop from Munich to Sal takes about 6 hours. Cape Verde stays on UTC-1 all year, which is two hours behind central European winter time and three hours behind German summer time, so jetlag is negligible — you arrive ready to enjoy the beach the same day.

Are there direct flights from Munich to Cape Verde?

Yes, but only one airline flies it: TUI fly, on a seasonal leisure schedule of about two flights a week, concentrated in the German winter-sun months. Every direct flight to Sal from Munich, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Hanover and Stuttgart is a TUI fly service. Outside the peak season, or if the nonstop is full, you can connect — through Barcelona or Milan on the cheapest fares, or through Zurich or Lisbon on a single ticket.

How much does a return flight cost?

Across the hundred cheapest returns we can currently price on Munich–Sal, nothing sold below €305. The normal spread is about €362–492 with a median near €429, and the dearest fare in the sample was €521. Over our longer-run tracking the route has shown fares as low as around €232, with good deals near €331.

When is the cheapest time to fly?

September is the cheapest month we can actually price: all six of the cheapest returns in our sample depart in September, at €305–320. May and June sit beyond the booking window we can query, so we cannot test whether they undercut it — what is clear is that all three fall outside the winter-sun peak, when demand and fares drop, yet Sal stays warm and breezy.

Which airlines fly this route?

Nonstop, TUI fly alone flies Munich to Sal, seasonally. Connecting, Vueling and easyJet through Barcelona or Milan Malpensa held the cheapest fares in our sample; SWISS through Zurich and TAP Air Portugal through Lisbon are single-ticket options, both dearer than flying direct.

Which airport will I land at?

You land at Amílcar Cabral International Airport (SID) on Sal, near Espargos. It is the main gateway for the island’s resorts; most visitors transfer about 18 km south to Santa Maria by taxi or hotel shuttle.

How far in advance should I book?

For the winter-sun peak, book two to four months ahead, as the seasonal nonstop has limited weekly seats and Christmas and February half-term sell out early. In the quieter months, four to six weeks is often enough for a good fare.

Is it cheaper to fly on certain days?

Because these are leisure services, prices track the weekly departure pattern more than the weekday. Where there is a choice, midweek dates and avoiding the Christmas and half-term peaks make the biggest difference to the fare.
