🌍 About Tétouan
Tétouan is the most complete medina in Morocco — UNESCO-listed and, unusually, Andalusian rather than Arab-Berber in feel, because it was rebuilt after 1492 by Muslims and Jews expelled from Granada. That history shows in the whitewashed alleys, the tilework, and the old Jewish quarter once called Little Jerusalem. It was also the capital of Spanish Morocco, so people here still slip into Spanish, and the colonial Ensanche district feels more Seville than Marrakech. Eat bissara, the northern fava-bean soup sold cheap from medina stalls at breakfast. Use it as a base: Chefchaouen's blue town and the Mediterranean beaches at Martil are both under an hour away. Come April–May or September–October for mild dry days; winter is grey and wet in the Rif, summer hot and beach-crowded.
