Barcelona to Sapporo with China Eastern Airlines from €650 — 17% below the typical deal price of €785.
Tickets from €650 both ways — checked baggage included (2 × 23 kg).
Return — CTS 13:30 → Shanghai (PVG) 16:50, 21h 20m layover, PVG 14:10+1 → BCN 21:20+1. Total elapsed 38h 50m. 🌆 Long layover in Shanghai — overnight stopover opportunity (see below).
Note: of the 4 available date pairs, the 24 Jun and 26 Jun returns have the long 21h 20m Shanghai layover (overnight stopover bonus). The 19 Jun and 1 Jul returns have a normal 7h 50m PVG transit — stay airside. See “Available Dates” for per-pair travel windows.
With 21h 20m overnight in Shanghai Pudong (PVG) on the way home, you have a full day to explore China’s biggest city. PVG sits ~30 km from city centre, connected by Maglev (8 minutes, ¥50) or metro Line 2 (~50 min, ¥9). Arrive PVG 16:50, depart 14:10 next day — easily fit dinner, hotel night, and morning sightseeing.
What to see in 21 hours (arrive evening, depart afternoon):
• The Bund at dusk (18:00-20:00) — Shanghai’s most iconic skyline shot. Colonial-era waterfront opposite Pudong’s neon-lit skyscrapers. Free, walkable.
• Nanjing Road East dinner (20:00-22:00) — pedestrian mega-street, Din Tai Fung xiaolongbao (¥120/head), or street food at Yu Garden bazaar.
• Sleep: 4-star hotel near People’s Square ~¥400/night (€50); business hotels around PVG ~¥250 (€32). Hilton Garden Inn Hongqiao is convenient for morning return.
• French Concession breakfast (08:00-10:00) — Tianzifang or Xintiandi cafés, plane-tree-lined boulevards, art-deco facades.
• Yu Garden + Old City (10:30-12:00) — Ming dynasty classical garden, ¥40 entry. Plus surrounding bazaar with Shanghai snacks.
• Pudong skyline + Maglev back (12:00-14:00) — Oriental Pearl Tower observation (¥220) or Shanghai Tower (¥180, world’s 3rd tallest building). Maglev back to PVG.
Visa note: EU passports get 240-hour (10-day) transit visa-free through Shanghai PVG, as long as you have an onward ticket to a third country (your CTS→BCN leg counts) and stay within Shanghai/Jiangsu/Zhejiang. No advance application — apply at the transit counter on arrival. Bags stay checked-through to BCN, carry overnight essentials in cabin bag.
Date variants: Headline 11 Jun → 24 Jun (13 nights in Sapporo + Shanghai stopover bonus on return). The 26 Jun return adds 2 nights in Sapporo with the same long PVG layover. The 1 Jul return is the longest stay (20 nights) but trades the stopover for a tighter 7h 50m PVG transit. The 19 Jun return is the shortest (8 nights), normal layover.
Sapporo May/June note: Cherry blossoms peak in early May. Mid-late June is end of spring / start of summer in Hokkaido — pleasant 18-22°C, no Golden Week premium, long daylight hours. Furano lavender fields start blooming late June.
