Tangier sits where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean, staring across the Strait of Gibraltar at Spain just 14 km off. The thing to see is Café Hafa, a cliff-terrace café open since 1921 where Paul Bowles, the Beat writers and the Rolling Stones all drank mint tea over the water — go an hour before sunset for a seat on the lower terraces. Above the medina, the Kasbah fortress holds the widest strait views.
