Eat at a bar mleczny, the subsidized communist-era "milk bar" canteen still ladling out pierogi and żurek (sour rye soup) for a few złoty. Come May to September, when the riverbank beaches open and the terraces fill; winter is grey, cold and dark, worth it mainly for cheap fares and empty queues.
