🌍 About Liberia, Costa Rica
Most travelers land at Liberia's airport (LIR) and drive straight to the Pacific beaches, but the town earns its nickname Ciudad Blanca honestly: its old adobe houses were whitewashed with lime against the sun, and the streets were once paved with pale river gravel. This is sabanero country — Guanacaste is Costa Rica's cattle-ranching, cowboy-hat heartland, and the local snack to find is rosquillas, crisp little rings of corn masa and cheese, baked hard enough to dunk in coffee. Real draw nearby: Rincón de la Vieja, an active volcano 23 km out with bubbling mud pots, hot springs and waterfalls. It's one of the driest spots in the country. Come December–April for near-zero rain, but that's peak season and prices climb; August–October is green, cheap, and only briefly wet.
