🌍 About Accra
Accra's oldest quarter is Jamestown, a working fishing harbour below a 19th-century colonial lighthouse — wooden canoes land the morning catch, and it's the city's most distinctive walk, not a manicured sight. Eat waakye: rice and beans cooked with dried sorghum leaves that stain it reddish-brown, sold from roadside pots for breakfast and piled with shito (a dark, fiery dried-fish-and-chilli sauce), boiled egg, gari and spaghetti. And yes, order the jollof — Ghanaians will tell you theirs beats Nigeria's, and the argument is half the fun. Come November to March, the dry months with the best weather; December to February brings the dusty harmattan wind off the Sahara. Skip June, the wettest month by far. Heat is constant year-round, so a cheap fare any month still delivers warmth.
