🌍 About Wenzhou

Wenzhou is China's small-business capital — the "Wenzhou model" of private family enterprise took off here in the 1980s, and the city has one of the country's largest Christian populations, which is why it's sometimes called China's Jerusalem. For travelers the real draw is outside town: Yandang Mountain (Yandangshan), a UNESCO geopark of jagged volcanic rhyolite peaks about 70km northeast, where the Lingfeng cliffs are floodlit at night and the rock formations read as faces and animals as you walk past. Eat Wenzhou wonton — thin-skinned, in clear broth, the version that spawned noodle chains nationwide — plus fresh Ou River seafood. Come in April or October–November for warm, dry days. Skip August: around 250mm of rain, heavy humidity, and typhoon season runs June through November.
