🌍 About Burgas
Burgas is Bulgaria's southern Black Sea port — most people use it as the gateway to the beach resorts, but the genuinely distinctive thing is the ring of lakes around it. Atanasovsko, right at the city edge, is a salt lake on the Via Pontica bird-migration flyway: flamingos, pelicans and spoonbills pass through, and the old salt pans double as open-air mud baths where locals coat themselves in black lye mud. Eat tsatsa — small whole fish, flour-dusted and deep-fried, the standard beach-bar snack with a cold beer. Skip the generic seafront restaurants for those. Come May–June or September: warm sea, fewer crowds and cheaper fares than the July–August peak, when prices and resort traffic spike. Winter is quiet and grey, worth it only for the birds and the prices.
