🌍 About Essaouira
The wind is the thing to know about Essaouira. The Alizé trade wind blows off the Atlantic almost year-round, which made it Morocco's windsurfing and kitesurfing capital but means the wide beach is better for sport than sunbathing. Eat at the port fish stalls: you pick from the morning catch — sardines are king here — and it's grilled in front of you with bread and harissa for 60-80 dirhams, the best meal in town. The UNESCO medina is compact and walkable, ringed by Portuguese-built ramparts (the Skala de la Ville, where Game of Thrones shot Astapor). It's also argan-oil country. Come spring for warm, calm-ish days and thin crowds.
