🌍 About Sanya
Sanya sits at the southern tip of Hainan, China's tropical island, and it's where mainland Chinese go for a beach holiday — think a domestic Hawaii rather than an international resort. The beach that earns the reputation is Yalong Bay, an 8km curve of genuinely white sand and clear water lined with resorts; Dadonghai is the cheaper, busier alternative closer to town. Eat yeziji, coconut chicken hotpot — a whole young chicken simmered in fresh coconut water at the table, light and faintly sweet, not the heavy Sichuan-style hotpot you might expect. Come October to April, when it's 22–28°C, dry and sunny. Skip May to September: it's hot, wet, and typhoons roll through. The catch is that the best weather is also peak season — Chinese New Year (late Jan/Feb) brings the biggest crowds and the steepest hotel and flight prices, so aim for October–November or March.
